  1. GRE general 325+ and TOFEL 105+ (speaking 24+) would be enough, unless you're aiming at top 10 programs.

I think publication, research experiment and recommendation letters are more important for PhD application.

applied to UPenn Biology too, haven't heard anything yet. I'm an international applicant tho, don't know if international applicants would be viewed later than domestic.

I just emailed  the POI that I contacted before and she told me the interview email will be sent in a day or two, so wish both of us good luck!!!

  3. I'm not very familiar with US job market, but I think jobs also strongly depends on discipline, and wet or dry experiments, like, if you're doing some bioinfo or biostat things then it would be easier to get jobs like data analyst.

(and I heard consulting accept phd and doesn't care what your major is)

I applied to quite similar programs as your did...I don't think top 5 in China are unknown ... Your research is strong so I guess you are ok.

(a short explanation about why I said it's unknown: Chinese Academy of Sciences started to recruit undergraduate students (from Univ of CAS) since 2014, so it's quite new for everyone, and even most Chinese still think they only have graduate students ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍)

Really want to join the AP‘s lab (focus on neuro & evolution)in UPenn, but since the Bio PhD program requires rotation,I don’t think the connection could help much... besides I am sure she has several other applicants in her pool and I am definitely not her top choice : )
