Hi all! I'm a newbie here, but because I just submitted my apps, I'm eager for someone to #validate me and let me know what they think of my chances. I applied to 2 top-tier Sociology programs and 1 mid-tier program for a Soc Phd. GPA: 3.795 GRE: 166 verbal 163 quant 6.0 writing LORs: no sociologists, unfortunately. I am switching fields based on work experience (public policy and social science research spaces). My SOPs underscore my professional research experience because my undergrad was in humanities. Publications: Mostly non-academic, but lucky enough to be 2nd author on a university press chapter (not research more of an essay) and I have other published writing for laypeople Fit: I spoke to at least 1 faculty member at each department and confirmed that faculty would be willing/able to support my research interests.
