I say this because people sometimes love to blame everyone/everything (except themselves) for their failure but the experience could be very different for someone who's more self-driven and motivated.
specifically that he does not work well with female students, often interrupts them, and demeans their ideas. I heard this from his male students, because all his female students left. As context, I'm a woman of color, and his PhD students are all white men.

Looking for some advice here, I went to an interview and heard some pretty damning things about my POI, it was my top choice school but now I'm really hesitant. It's such a good program and I would love nothing more than to be at this school, but according to the students, he's pretty terrible. What do I do...?

Also, has anyone received interview invites from either NYU or Columbia?
I heard from someone that NYU has already sent out interviews, back in mid-December, which POI were you applying for, if you don't mind me asking?

You won't get marked down for wearing a suit when no one else is, but it might be frowned upon if you are underdressed
Yeah but I absolutely hate wearing suits, and I would hate to wear one when I'm trying to be myself. Does that make sense? IDK I didn't expect this to be an issue ?

woah, how could this even happen? were you supposed to be accommodated by the school? did you go to the prof's office to check? This seems so out of left-field for any university

woah i had no idea that we were supposed to wear suits/blazers at all. Really thought it would be less business... what do you guys think about a sweater and (dress) pants combo

If anyone's wondering, the psych departments at Toronto and McGill are meeting this week to discuss interview offers. Friday for McGill.

Regarding the informal Skype interviews, will they usually let you know their decision at the end of the interview?
I don't think so, I had a really long convo with my PI and he said he'll let me know in a few days after speaking with the other advisors. I think it does vary by program and also whether you applied to multiple advisors.

Did anyone apply to any Canadian schools? I heard that there's less competition there, and I haven't seen many people mention it. Maybe they're just not handing out interviews yet?

Hey does anyone know how the interview process works for social psych? Like how do they filter people out, is it that you're competing against someone else for the same prof or are you just competing for a spot in the program?
In my mind I'm imagining that profs choose one student for interviews and then during the admissions meeting, they have less spots than students so they reject some. Is this ... correct?

How much financial aid did NYU offer you? Perhaps it varies by program and department, but I was told that it was 28000 a year.
