  1. Has anyone heard back from Denver? I applied for the first deadline and will know by February 1st, but I'm curious if they've started going out yet.
  2. Submitted my application on January 1st, a day before the deadline. I switched over to advanced standing since I'll have my BSW in May...I'm so nervous and I hate how long the wait is - over half of the semester! I also applied to Denver and UMich and will likely have to respond to one of them (if I get in) before I hear back from UW Seattle Thus, I've created this thread to talk to and rant with other applicants. Here's to hoping all of us get accepted!
  3. Anyone else get the email from UMich that your application has been received/processed and you need to set up your friend account? I saw it and even though the subject line was obviously not a decision - I still couldn't help but think DID I GET IN?? I've also turned off my email notifications, yet find myself checking it impulsively throughout the day. ? But honestly, that's better than receiving an email alert and feeling the disappointment that it isn't one of the schools! Needless to say, I'm anxious for the semester to start back up - I like being busy with things to do, and it'll help me keep my mind off decisions.
  4. I decided to google it and to my surprise, something came up - I haven't had luck in the past. According to this website, the acceptance rate is 88%, but I wonder how recent that stat is, and if it's changed?
  5. Okay sorry, I have another comment to make, about Denver! Does anyone know their acceptance rate for the MSW program?
  6. I just realized that Denver will notify me in less than a mont, since I submitted the application by the early decision deadline! Eep!!!! I got my dates all mixed up and thought it was much later, but honestly I just want to know!! Although since Seattle is my top school, it is frustrating that I may not hear back until late March, and I'll have possibly Denver and Michigan offering acceptance + great financial aid. I won't want to commit until I know from Seattle (I know I'll go there w/o hesitation), but then, what if Seattle rejects me? Not to mention, hearing back in late March does not allow a lot of time to pack and move following graduation, seeing as I live on the other side of the country!. (I applied for Advanced Standing, which starts mid-summer). In other news, I am currently struggling to decide whether or not to apply to my alma mater, VCU - it'd be for the two-year program (I didn't want to do the Advanced Standing here, since it starts like a week after graduation and I've heard it's HELLA intense). I know I can always move after grad school, and my best friend is staying in the city, so that'd be nice, but the idea of staying in this location for two more years...lord help. Even if VCU is the only school that accepts me, I don't think I would go. I'd rather move to Seattle after graduation, take a gap year, and then reapply. Or if Denver accepts, I can see myself going there. Not sure about Michigan, I need to visit the campus to know (the winters would be brutal). This is not to say that VCU is a bad school - the field office is a disaster lol, but the professors I've had are great, the program is great, etc. It's other reasons I want to leave that have really little to do with VCU itself. But VCU has been my back-up school, and now I'm not sure if it's even worth it? Like I don't want to even have it as an option, ya know? Sorry for the ramble! But writing this all out has helped with some of the stress that accumulated since I realized I'd be hearing back from Denver sooner rather than later ahaha. Hopefully we will all know soon!
  7. Hello everyone, My dream school/MSW program is University of Washington.I submitted my application last night (it was due today), and may hear back as late as late March. I live in Virginia, and honestly if I'm accepted there I'm attending...although I will say that the other schools I applied to are in Denver and Michigan, so really I'll be across the country regardless (I'm on the fence about applying to my alma mater, for a few reasons). I'm not worried about living by myself across the country (although I hate that I'll move away from my best friend), but I am anxious about potentially hearing back rather late, and then having to find a place and move in a short amount of time, seeing as I applied for Advanced Standing and would be starting mid-summer (and of course I'll want to be there for a week or two before I start to familiarize myself with the city). Is anyone else applying to school(s) across the country?
  8. Hi friends! I stumbled across this while trying to figure out if one of the schools I applied to has interviews...I thought I would share the schools I applied to because with a lot of offices opening back up tomorrow, and the decisions beginning...it's going to be a long next few months. *cue heightened anxiety* University of Washington (Advanced Standing) - Finishing the essay tonight, hoping to submit it as well (1/1/20). This is my #1 school. Does anyone know if they do interviews, and if those interviews can be virtual? I imagine graduate schools are fairly flexible with that? Flying across the country for an interview will not be easy nor cheap. University of Denver (Advanced Standing)- Submitted 12/15/19. #2 school. The research I'm completing is actually with a professor who attended Denver for her PhD, and she's one of my LORs, so hopefully that will work in my favor. University of Michigan (16-Month) - Submitted 12/2/19. Virginia Commonwealth University (Two-year) - Back-up school/alma mater. Submitting application soon - isn't due util 1/15/20. NYU is also on my list, but I don't think I'll be applying there anymore. It's far too expensive as a school, not to mention living there, that I don't think it is realistic for me to even consider. But that's okay with me, I think, as the more I think about it, the less NYU's program fits with my career goals. (Really, Washington is the only one that aligns perfectly, but alas...) I'm worried that I'm not competitive enough for my applications. I have fairly strong LORs, I think, and I'm a decent writer, but I just haven't really volunteered during undergrad. I have had somewhat of a unique experience while in undergrad, which I explain in my essays. I am also completing research, which I started in May of 2019 and plan to continue until May this year - but I'm worried it isn't enough? Furthermore, I know that GPA doesn't matter as much for MSWs as it does for say, med school - although I do pride myself on having a high GPA. I'm so nervous, y'all. I'm also surprised to see that so many people applied to Columbia, and not that many even to Michigan (according to a recent class profile, 2018 I believe, I think they had over 1000 applicants)? Hopefully it's a good thing that my schools haven't been as mentioned...but good luck to everyone, and congrats to those who have been accepted already!!!
