  1. Sounds like you have a really great network/support group. That's a leg up on plenty of other applicants. Be confident.
  2. I heard a guy applied as a poetry student because he knew there was a better chance of him getting in even though he wanted to study fiction. When he got there he just participated in as many fiction workshops as he could. Pretty insane.
  3. I've been writing here and there. Not as much as I should. I've been doing a lot of reading.
  4. I hope you two get in somewhere so the anxiety can end. Idk why I'm so calm though. Maybe because I've experienced a lot of rejection the past 4.5 years (not related to MFA).
  5. I tend to black out and forget I even applied. Though this forum has helped me remember.
  6. It's 3:30 am where I'm at as well. Hadn't noticed before. With regards to sleep, just read something super boring. You'll be out in no time.
  7. Wow lol. I didn't know this was a thing
  8. Hopefully no matter where you end up going, your cohort will push you in a positive way.
  9. It's a shock to me though. Thanks for that (no sarcasm). I remember hearing Paul Harding say he went to Iowa just to work with Marilynne Robinson only to find out when he got there that she was on sabbatical. It worked out in the end for him though, so everything will be fine I believe for the incoming 'Cuse class.
  10. Also it's a good point that certain authors foster writers better than others.
  11. Thanks for all of these links
  12. Side note, how do I delete a post? I posted essentially the same thing twice. And yeah it is weird that he's still all over the Syracuse website if he won't be there.
  13. I can't get too mad for a few reasons: 1. I'm not even accepted yet. 2. He deserves to be happy elsewhere if he chooses. 3. There are plenty of other great writers at Syracuse. Now, with a couple minutes to think, I feel like my initial knee-jerk reaction was a little rude. But yeah I understand your sentiment @Ydrl And yeah @litty makes sense. He's a great writer but I applied to other schools because I'm willing to work with other writers as well. It was just a knee jerk shock is all.

  15. I take that back, I won't read it. I'd have to subscribe. But I did catch in the intro it said he had moved to cali and was barely ever in syracuse now. Sad.
  16. Sheesh that's a little depressing. I just looked up the interview now, will read. Also is there any place I can read/hear these students comments on Saunders' non-availability? I'd like to read/hear about their experiences with Saunders non-existent. (That's not a jab to the other professors there, I know they are talented having read some of their stuff.) Finally, I'd like to know who they will replace Saunders with...very interesting.
  17. I had no idea Saunders was leaving! That's literally the only reason I applied. Where/how did you find out he was leaving?
  18. Here's a chart by poets and writers website. Last column has deadlines. Some are in march from what ive scanned. NOTE: This chart is from last years application round but I assume deadline dates don't change too much. Another NOTE: This is a list of full residency programs only. https://www.pw.org/files/mfa_full-residency_2019.pdf
  19. Hey everyone I just found this website. Cool to meet you all. I applied to 5 mfa programs: Ole miss, Syracuse, Iowa Writer's Workshop, University of Maryland and Michener Center. My top program is Syracuse. I am a fiction applicant. Good luck to everyone.
