Does anyone know when Hunter is supposed to release decisions? Having trouble getting in touch with their office...

Also, does anyone have any thoughts on how the Hunter msw program is regarded? I have gotten so many mixed opinions on Hunter.

I have only heard really awesome things about their program. I know someone that went there and now owns their own private practice and loved it. Also, I know someone attending CU who recommended Hunter. It’s really well regarded- especially in the NY area.

Sorry I didn't get back earlier but yes its for BC, when I went to admitted students day and I spoke to the financial advisor they said to submit it in order to see how much more aid you would require. It asks you to list other scholarships and outside aid, including any scholarships you received from the School of Social Work

That's okay! Do you know where an I find this form?

Definitely me, but I'll have a rabbit with me. Might possibly go to University of Washington but I'll know in a couple of weeks since we're supposed to hear back on their Financial Aid by then.

If you decide on BC for sure send me a message! I’m going to be looking for a roommate (but not sure if I’ll have found someone by then). I’ll keep you posted!

That's great !! You're clinical as well ? I started looking through the field placement options last night and I'm nervous but excited to actually get started ! I love how structured they are, it eases alot of stress !!

Yes I am!!! I'm so excited. We'll definitely be in classes together then :) I really love how structured they are as well. It's so nice.

Did you do the tour too ??! What did you think about the program? Sorry about the questions lol I love the program even more after hearing everything yesterday lol

Omg don’t apologize! I love the program SO much!!! I’m literally so excited lol. I didn’t do the tour but I walked around campus after. I’m likely committing soon so we’ll be classmates :)

You seem offended somehow. Nothing I said was meant that way- I was simply echoing what the other person said, and trying to help. Best of luck to you!

Omg NO!!! I wasn’t offended in the least. I’m sorry if my tone came off like that- sometimes I know it’s hard to gage online. I was just trying to tell you that I agree with your thoughts and had it been more applicable to me I’d likely be doing what you said!!! Sorry again for any confusion.. I genuinely value everyone’s opinion on here. Best of luck to you too :)

Totally valid if you know go after it in the end all someone ever has is a leap of faith, I graduated from my undergrad in May ‘19 awarded a Fulbright went and came back (due to financial reasons) and in October back began to apply to graduate school. Only you know your path follow your instincts you got this !!! Cheering you on ❤️

    OMG Fulbright? That is awesome!!

Thank you so much for the encouragement and kind words. Everyone on this forum is truly great, and I value what everyone has to say. Cheering you on as well!!! ❤️

I hate to say this but I second this advice. It can be really hard to go right into grad school from undergrad because you run into the trap of being over qualified but under experienced.. I have many friends who did this and they were passed over for jobs because the entry level positions did not require a masters degree and the ones that werent entry level required more experience. @NicoleDes its so commendable that you want to move straight through and just be done- totally get that- but if you do decide to work for a year and defer... then at least you get some experience under your belt and have a grad program waiting for you at the end of that year. Take it from someone in their 30's- there is no need to rush :) Jobs and such will be waiting for you no matter when you do grad school.

I totally respect your opinion. And I completely agree. However, I’m very certain that this is what I want and I’m ready to achieve my goals now, even if that means working a bit harder or proving myself more than those with more professional experience have to. As an undergrad, I was fortunate enough to be involved with a clinical lab so I have a lot of strong research experience with regards to my specific area of focus. I’ve also been employed for a non profit program. Had I not been involved with these things, I would think deferring would be way more applicable for my needs.

I don't expect this is advice you want to hear, but my #1 piece of advice as someone who went straight from undergrad to grad school (MPH at Emory) is to either defer for at least a year to get some work experience/perspective or make sure to keep the amount of student debt to a minimum. Like many, I took out loans to help with living expenses, and I am now bogged down with six figures of student debt. Try to avoid that if you can -- it all sounds theoretical now but it is a lot to manage long term.

I totally agree. I am not accepting any offer without negotiating financial aid. That is something very important to me, which is essentially what is making my decision difficult. However, I am certain that I would like to go straight from undergrad into the program. Although I may not have the professional experience, I have a great deal of experience with regards to clinical research. So I’m confident that this is what I want to do! Thank you so so much for you Input :)

  10. Anyone else here SO indecisive???? I really did not expect to have the options that I do and I am so torn. It's been all I can think about... I'm on the younger side of applicants (or so I assume), I'm graduating in 3 years with my BA this May and coming straight from undergrad... I want to make the best possible decision but deciding on something this big at my age seems so crazy to me lol... if anyone else is also stressing feel free to message me to talk

They have an accepted students reception on March 2nd, and admitted students day in NYC, SF, and LA, on 4/4, 4/15, and 4/17, respectively :)

I don't know a ton about BC's Social Work, but I grew up in the area (my grandparents practically live on the campus!) and moved to NYC in 2015, so I can speak a bit to living in both places, although I'm a bit biased towards NYC. Boston is really quaint and has a strong education culture, due to having a high concentration of universities. There are also a ton of young students and working professionals, so despite being a historical city, it feels young. However, it really lacks diversity and culture, especially compared to New York, and Newton (the suburb) feels this even more so. I also was surprised that there isn't a huge difference in the cost of living between NYC and Boston. Congrats on having two really excellent options!

Thank you so much. Since the two schools are essentially equal for me, I feel that I can't go wrong with either. However, the atmosphere and diversity of the location is very important to me. I have not heard from anyone yet that has been able to directly compare Boston and NYC, so I really value your opinion. If you have any other strong opinions on either location I would love to hear more. Thank you so much for your insight--- and congratulations to you as well! :)

Sure! Are you doing 2-year or advanced? I really like BC for the atmosphere, courses, and internship opportunities. I've also only heard good things from the BC MSW program and know 5+ who have done it either advanced or 2 year. I know other practitioners that have graduated from there and where they've gotten jobs. I also like the certificate options, I've been told with an MSW it doesn't matter much for a certificate but depending on where you want to end up I feel like it will help a lot, plus I just want to be more informed and learn about things that interest me! I'm not sure about BC's research in the program seeing as I don't think research course is required, which is fine for me but might be a deterrent for others. I'm sure you can take it as an elective or something. I also have a bias towards Boston ?‍♀️

I'm doing the two year program! I have visited Boston before and I really love the area. The certificate options are also very appealing to me. However, I've heard from many that degrees from Boston are very well respected but more so if you would like to remain in the Massachusetts area. Would you mind sharing the job locations of which the people you know received offers? That might be helpful for me. My main issue is that I am from NY and I also love Boston... so with no preference in location it makes it even harder to decide. I really appreciate your input SO much, so thank you!! :)

are you doing clinical or macro and what are you planning on focusing on for specialization? what interests you?

I would do a side by side pros and cons list with tuition/aid/extra loans you might need to take out and then COL in both areas with the differences in each program! plus i’m sure there’s people on here who can give you thoughts on Columbia who will be attending there! I don’t know enough about their program to give any input

I’m doing clinical! I’m planning on focusing on child welfare. I’m also really interested in trauma/ early adversity! I’ve been doing pros/ cons lists and I’m still really conflicted. If you could give your thoughts on BC that’d be awesome!

  14. Does anyone have any thoughts on Boston College vs Columbia University? I have been accepted to both with scholarship. I’m very conflicted because I didn’t expect to get into both programs and I can see myself happily attending either. Any insight would be very appreciated :)
