  1. I have a poor GPA(5.2/10) in my engineering math courses but a better GPA(8.6/10) in my distance MBA Quant courses. Although the MBA quant course had a whole lot of stats and algebra , it didn't have calculus in any depth, just a bit of function theory. I also have 5 years of experience in business intelligence consulting. My GRE score Q780 and V720. What are my options for a full time Masters in Statistics? I am looking for a course with a thesis opportunity because I will be applying for a PhD program later.
  2. I am trying to find out ways to reduce my total budget for masters in economics. So searching for 1 year masters, preferably in the USA. UK works out too costly and I hear tuition waivers, TA/RAs, financial aid or ways to reduce fees are almost non-existent there. I came across a few in the USA claiming a one year span. Cleveland state university Kentucky University, Lexington Western Kentucky university, Gordon ford college of business Old Dominion University, Virginia Western Illinois University Youngstown State University How are these universities and their programs? Any more I should know of? Final Aim here: masters to PhD. Want to learn financial economics. Regards, Joshua
  3. Dear All, I am international student trying for full time masters in economics in USA. My goal is entry into a PhD program in business. My main concern : Cost of masters program vs value of the program towards my PhD application. I am trying for masters in economics after a few profs advised me to do so for the kind of research I am interested in, in order to strengthen my appln for a PhD prog. My profile Undergraduate degree grades(from India) : poor, B. or a C+. Depends on the grading system. 57%. In India it is a B+. Work Ex : Business Intelligence, 5 years. Did well.Passed some coveted internationally accepted certification exams in Project Management. Distance learning MBA from India just completed.Good Grades here. A overall and A+ in maths, managerial economics and some of my finance majors. 2 years program and $650 only, recognized by Govt of India. Now would it be better to concentrate on trying for a school with cheap per credit cost and living expenditure, not worry of the competitive value of the school in the job market and bank on a good GRE score and good grades in masters for an entry into a good PhD program? or Take a whole different approach. Go for a reputed school, possibly with higher costs for my masters. What do PhD programs look for, a heavy weight school or good grades in an application?.........I got a positive response from Western Kentucky university(Gordon ford college of business) and South Dakota State University, especially on my work ex. I had sent my work ex and educational docs to them to recommend my chances into their masters program. They have low tuition rates haven't they? With a poor undergraduate record I don't feel its wise for me to bank on tuition waivers, scholarships etc. I mostly probably will have go into debt pursuing a master's course. A debt I plan to carry into my PhD,through it and handle it post PhD. Regards, Joshua
  4. Thx for all the replies guys. Yes, pinned down correct. International student. You bet I'll be neck deep in debt post my ful time masters!! Actually I am looking for a masters in economics to get into a PhD program in business. A course in economics was suggested by few of the profs mentoring PhD courses considering my current background and th research I want to participate in. So my worry is not getting a job. Infact I am going back to school after working 5 years in a job as business intelligence consultant. I already have a distance learning MBA from a school in India. Just completed it. Cost $650 only, 2 year program. Now thats blow ur mind cheap, haan!! I won't try for a job post masters. Plan is to carry on whatever debt through my PhD prgram and handle it post PhD. That's why I am looking for a cheap course, one that will give me a degree with good grades, help me break in to a PhD program. My plan is to look for a good university post masters for my PhD for good research. Any better suggestions to handle loans and strategy into PhD are welcome though. My thought process is good grades in my masters and a good GRE score are more important to my PhD appln than a competitive school during masters. Should I think otherwise? Humble request to suggest. Infact I wanted to know, South Dakota State University and Western Kentucky University(Gordon ford college of business), how are they? I sent my educational and work ex docs there and they have sent a very positive reply. They seemed to appreciate my work ex.
  5. Dear All, In USA, which are the most inexpensive grad schools as per tuition fees? i.e. as per credit hour cost or cost per semester? Regards, Joshua Helios
  6. Dear All, I was going through the University of Alaska Fairbanks website and planning to apply for an MS in resource and applied economics course there. Any info on education in Alaska? I am looking at a low budget for my Masters course, tuition, living costs. And I won't be looking to enter the job market after my masters because I'll straight away move for my PhD after that. Is Alaska a way to go? Regards, Joshua
  7. Dear All, My stats Undergraduate GPA 2.76 Distance MBA course GPA 3.80 Work Exp 5 years as a Business Intelligence consultant. GMAT - 680 What are my options for a masters in economics. Kindly do suggest a few back up options where I'll gain admission for sure and the school has a reasonably good course. I intend to continue with a doctoral program in corporate strategy right after my masters. I found a MSc strategy, HSE, Aalto University, Finland. Anybody know anything about this course? average GMAT acceptance score? Regards, Joshua Helios
  8. I found a MSc course in strategy. Aalto univesity, Finland. Cheap and looks good. Anyone know about the course here?
  9. Dear All, I wish to pursue a full time masters course with heavy concentration on strategy. I don't want to do an MBA. I seek a full time course which goes into the math of the subject. Actually I want to pursue a doctoral program in strategy later on. So I want to invest in a good masters course now which will prepare me well for a future PhD. Undergraduate GPA 2.76 Distance MBA course GPA 3.80 Work Exp 5 years as a Business Intelligence consultant. I also took part in a 12 month fellowship program,a full time community development program on rural development for poor farmers in India. GMAT - 680 So hopefully my work exp would make up for my low undergraduate GPA. Some of subjects that I wish to study are 1.Corporate Development: Mergers, Acquisitions and Alliances 2.Corporate Strategy and Organisation Design 3.Negotiation Analysis 4.Strategy Implementation 5.Marketing Strategy and Economic Analyses 6.Economics of Strategy 7.Technology Strategy Consulting 8. Strategy Innovation Management Since my GMAT score is 2.5 years old. And since many MS courses ask GRE, I am willing to do that as well. If I could just pin down the right schools for my requirement............. I'll know which exam to take. Are there any courses on strategy or any that cater to my requirements? Regards, Joshua Helios
