  1. Declining (unfunded) offers from Aberdeen and Durham (NT PhD), and a funding-to-be-determined offer (MA) from UGA. Going to Wheaton (PhD NT, tuition + stipend). Really a very tough decision between Durham and Wheaton, since both prospective supervisors were very, very gracious and since both programs really were a good fit in different ways. But we really loved Wheaton, and funding those UK programs is very difficult!

  2. Hi,

I just got a hand written thank you for attending Leadership Candler... and I wasn't invited to attend Leadership Candler (The person who wrote this wrote it as if I had met them over the weekend). AND the person who wrote it clearly had looked over my admissions profile - as it pulled specifics from it to make it personal. So my questions go like this:

    1. WTF?

    2. I got a rejection to Leadership Candler in my email, but maybe this means it was an oversight? Should I call and ask about it or just assume it was a mistake?

Any advice? I assume it was a mistake, but it seems odd.

    Call 'em. Can't hurt!

I haven't yet. Shortly after I sent in my application, Julie Hueber sent out a mass email saying invitations would be sent out around January 20th. I expect we should hear sometime this week.

I noticed that you originally planned on applying to Baylor (in a previous thread) and wondered why you decided not to do so. Hope you are doing well in this agonizing waiting process!

Thanks! I didn't get that email for some reason...

I didn't apply to Baylor because their NT faculty (though excellent) didn't seem to have research interests close enough to mine for me to think I'd have a realistic shot, especially since I got no response either from admissions or the department (probably an oversight, I'm sure). Also, to be honest, those research proposals for the UK programs to which I applied took a lot of time and effort, and I kind of ran out of steam!

All the best - I hope to see you in Wheaton in Feb!

  4. I applied to Marquette, Baylor, Wheaton, Loyola Chicago, and U. Dayton for a Ph.D. in Christian theology.

So far I have heard very little, though I have student contacts at four of the five schools who I am checking up with regularly.

Shortly after applying to one of the schools I received a really nice personal email from its Dean of Graduate studies telling me that the graduate department of theology would get my application soon, but that he wanted to let me know of a number of reasons why this particular school "was a choice worthy of my careful consideration." I count that as an encouraging sign.

Hope you are all surviving the inclement weather well. Its par for the course here in rural Illinois.

Have you heard anything from Wheaton yet? I think they had sent out interview invites by this time last year. I know it's a long shot, but...

  5. I'm applying to Yale, Harvard, and Vandy in their M.A.R programs and at UGA and Georgia in their M.A. programs.

Also, does anyone think it is weird that Yale and Harvard have both delayed their deadlines?

Do you know anything about funding in UGA's religion dept?

  6. Applied: UGA (MA), Wheaton (PhD-New Testament), Emory (PhD - NT), Durham UK (PhD - NT), Aberdeen UK (PhD - NT), Cambridge UK (MPhil)

    Accepted: UGA (MA)

No word from anywhere else yet.

Got an acceptance to the MA in Religion at UGA on December 23--no word on funding yet.

  7. It's still early, and I'm still SOPing right now, but I'm applying to NT PhD programs at:

Emory, Baylor, Durham, Aberdeen, and Wheaton,

    and Masters programs at:

Georgia, Notre Dame, Cambridge, and Duke

    Stats:

    BA English: 3.4

    MDiv BibStud: 4.0

    710V, 740Q, TBA

  8. BA (English) Univ. GA 3.35 (proficient Latin)

MDiv (BibStud) Southern Bapt. Theol. Sem. 4.0 (Proficient Gk/Hb, beg. Aramaic)

    GRE V750, Q700, AW 6

Recs PhD's: U of St Andrews (NT), Fuller (NT), Tubingen (LXX) (if this matters...)

Looking at NT (Pauline) PhD study for F11- do I need a MA/ThM/MTS to get into a decent (employable/funded (?)) PhD?

    Opinions?
