"Congratulations once again on your acceptance to the Silberman School of Social Work! As we all know,
the COVID-19 pandemic has created an entirely unprecedented situation, including having an impact on
our field placement process. Because of this, for any of you working in social services, we would like to
explore the possibility of creating an employment-based field placement, to ensure both continuity and
learning in your first year at SSSW.
It is very important that you first submit your field practicum planning form provided by the Admissions
    Office.
Once we receive the form, we will assign you to an Assistant Director who will assist you with your
    placement process.
If you are in such a position providing social services, please reach out to your assigned Assistant
Director so we can explore this possibility as a field placement further.
Thank you in advance and, once again, welcome to Silberman!

    Sincerely,
    Kanako Okuda"

Not sure why you can't open it but here is the letter.

Thanks for sharing this! For folks who received it, have you heard from/been assigned an Assistant Director? I have already resigned from my social services job in anticipation of going to school FT, so this is concerning to me. Wish I'd known!

Columbia is getting on my nerves, now. Everytime I see an email from them.... thinking it's an admissions decision only to see it's another invite for one of their Facebook live videos.

Literally same! At this point I've picked my school, so I guess it doesn't matter, but I would still like to KNOW. Every single time, it's another Facebook live invite. ?

I think their admissions committee is ghosting me.

Just got accepted to Columbia, NYU, Fordham , and Hunter. Now I cant decide. If you can let me know where you will be attending Fall 2020 and why you chose that University?

I got accepted into NYU, Fordham, and Hunter as well! Still haven't heard from Columbia.

Honestly, it came down to my cost-benefit analysis. I got a total of 24k in funding from NYU and 8k from Fordham. I got NO scholarships from Hunter (which I hear is pretty common) and it is still significantly more affordable, on top of being a highly regarded and competitive program in NYC. Outside of NYC, it doesn't have the name recognition of an a school like NYU or Columbia, but I don't feel that matters so much in this field.

Ultimately, you have to decide what feels best for you. They are all fantastic programs and I don't think you could go wrong with any of them, but if cost is an important factor, Hunter is a sensible choice.

  4. Did anyone notice that Hunter extended their application deadline to April 15th? ?

This has me extremely nervous. If they're accepting applications until April 15th, does that mean it could be SUMMER before I hear back? Not to mention that ALL of my other schools need my decision by the 15th...

I'm pulling my hair out. My options are pretty much Go To Hunter or Accrue Mountains of Debt. The silence is killing me!!

I'm in the same position. I ended up calling them this past Monday and they said decisions/interview emails will be sent out within next two weeks. Good luck!

Fingers crossed! I ended up emailing them and got a response today that said decisions and interview requests will be sent out "in the coming weeks" and I was warned it might take longer than normal... It did not leave me feeling reassured. ??

    Good luck to you too!

It went quite well! It was a small group, 4 people including myself, so the interview felt more intimate and relaxed. I really liked our interviewer, she really made us feel at ease and was informative about the program. We talked a bit about ourselves and our motivations in going into social work, and then discussed a specific scenario (in which an older client cooks for you during a home visit, what do you do?). It really was so that the interviewer could get to know you more and see if the school would be a good fit.

So, the interview was yesterday and I received an e-mail today letting me know that my final decision was in and I was accepted. So to summarize, I submitted my application and it was completed in October and my portal was updated around the end of December that I was 'Pending Interview.' I received an invitation to come in for a group interview in late January but was out of the country, and I updated them about me coming back and being available for an in person interview towards the end of February and got an e-mail the first week of March asking for me to come in for a group interview. The interviewer told us not to expect any replies for at least a week or so, but I ended up hearing back the day after my interview.

Just out of curiosity (and since you got in -- congrats by the way!) can you share how you answered the interview question?

  7. Long-time lurker, popping in late in the game.

I applied to full time programs at Hunter, Columbia, Rutgers, Fordham, and UPenn. Still working on apps for NYU and UMich, to be honest. My ADHD is kicking in ?

I got my acceptance letter from UPenn today! Bittersweet news honestly. I'm obsessed with their program and I LOVE Philly, but the tuition is insanely high and they only offered me 12k. From what I've heard that seems about standard. I just can't justify going 150k into debt for a social work degree... Really bummed I don't think I can make it happen.

I've also been accepted in Rutgers and Fordham, which I'm unsure about. Really just waiting on Hunter!!

Congrats to everyone who's gotten into their school, and good luck to everyone still waiting! We got this.

  8. I submitted my application on 1/23 and it was completed on 1/29. Still no word. Nothing in my portal either.

So far, I've been accepted to three of the five programs I applied to. No rejections yet. Hunter is my top choice and I'm waiting to hear back from them, but I've already had to put down a deposit at one school because they would not extend the deadline.

I'm really frustrated, and debating reaching out to them, but I don't want to seem unprofessional and hurt my chances!! Has anyone had any luck reaching out to admissions?

Congrats to everyone who's been accepted!!
