has anyone heard from any university regarding their formatting for classes this fall?

Your public health experience doesnt necessarily have to be with a public health agency. Remember that public health is very broad, and can be applied to many different work places. I work at a community resource centre who helps individuals who have no access to secure housing or food, and thats definitely along the lines of Social Determinants of Health. A friend got into an MPH program and works as a Research Interviewer and she was able to relate that to Public Health policies. Regardless, whatever experience you have (which is what a lot of universities are looking for), make sure you know how it can relate to Public Health, and play that up when you're writing your statement of intent, especially with a low GPA. I would suggest to take classes that will raise your last 2 years GPA. A lot of schools are looking for a B+ at least. And getting in with a 3.0 is possible, as long as your statement and references are strong. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone, a friend received this email from Guelph. I thought I'd share if any one is still waiting on them.

Aw nice! I’m coming from Alberta and I really wanted to see the campus so I tried watching YouTube videos hahah they weren’t that helpful but I got a glimpse at least. I accepted the offer online and my requirement for my conditional offer was to send them my transcripts. I did that ASAP but I forgot their physical offices were closed. So I sent them an email asking how they would know when they’ve received it, but they can’t confirm until their offices open back up. Unless the institution that sent it to them has a tracking number which I still have to inquire about. So I think for now the only thing you need to do are the requirements of your conditional offer (if it’s conditional).

I've been reaching out to current Guelph MPH students and ive received nothing but positive feedback! They said that the program offers a lot of flexibility in the electives so you can choose ones that will suit your interests. I also read someone's blog that said the focus on human health is not lacking, I will link it here: https://phspot.ca/mph-options/ If you have other worries I do suggest to reach out to current students who have similar interests.

Has anybody received rejections/wait lists from uofa or western?

My number one reason really is the location. I have family in Toronto and would be nice to be close to them. But I also really like the variety in courses Guelph provides, the integration of zoonotic diseases is definitely a nice twist, and very fitting because of what the world is currently going through with COVID-19. Guelph also allows 4 electives from any courses in the graduate calendar as I understand, and that will allow me to explore other fields of interest (particularly for me, I'm hoping ill be allowed to take the One Health course which connects animal, human, and environmental systems). The capstone project will also allow me to test my skills and enhance those skills for the real world Hope this helps!

Hi everyone, I received my acceptance to Guelph this afternoon. I'm soo ecstatic because I really didn't think I would get in since my GPA isnt the best.. here is my profile in hopes it will give someone on here and future applicants some hope Graduated BSc. Biological Anthropology; GPA in last 2 years : 3.46 and no stats courses - I volunteered at a children's hospital emergency room for 2.5 years just to answer questions from people in the waiting room and provide some activities to the kids while they waited, so not really PH related. - was a research assistant in paleontology lab for 6 months - was research assistant at the children's hospital in the day surgery unit for 7 months - infection prevention and control education volunteer at the children's hospital for a few months - executive in a school club and student council for 2 years as well as a peer helper for a year. - I've been working as a Youth Worker for a little over a year since graduating in 2018 so most of my PH related experience is from this role, I also work at a retirement home but only as a Food Service Assistant and I managed to relate that to a nutrition and diet type of experience. - my LOI were from 2 anthro profs, one who wanted me to write the letter and then she proof read it. It was a really good way of overselling myself and im so grateful she was too lazy to write the letter herself lol. So if you ever get the chance to write your own reference letter, don't be scared to oversell and make yourself look really good. A really good tip for applying to Guelph is to read the FAQ section as there are some added tips on there as to what you can include in your LOI to make it stronger. I really believe that's part of the reason I got accepted. I'm still waiting to hear from UofA and Western. If you have any more questions, just ask Best of luck to everyone and congrats to everyone who got accepted!!
