They just don't want to be on the record for anything else. I called 2 weeks ago and the guy said "BY March 31" but he very hesitant or well trained not to say that decisions could be coming out any earlier.

Not with the voters, it won't. But their institutes, classes, etc. might give you the policy knowledge to talk all yankee-smart-like.

Anyone notice that no one has posted a rejection from CIPA to the Grad Cafe database? Hmmm... Also, is there a current CIPA student or recent grad who could talk about his/her internship and career search?
-
It looks like all the HKS PhD rejections went out today. quote name='2011fall' timestamp='1299101845' post='210487'] i guess very few people they contacted? only 2 threads so far.....since i got no email or call yet. (i applied for PhD in Public Policy and so believe that i gave a shot!) grrrrr....so very nervous these days, getting up so early to check my email, and having phone with me all the time. i also read from last year threads, not all phd candidates are informed by call. so i am expecting that my acceptance will come in email THESE DAYS!!! UGHHH!!!

I just got in with funding! I submitted my application in the first week of February.

They called and emailed PHD candidates today and yesterday.

Can I ask how much?

I'm in the 3 semester pittsburgh program with a 60% scholarship. But I applied for the January admission to Australia and then deferred/transferred my application. I found out over a month ago.

I think it depends on the narrative. If you tell HKS you want to go into international security, then it makes no sense. But something domestic, ed-related, public-service oriented makes a lot of sense.
-
I was just accepted to the MPA/MA-IR program! Also waiting on funding....I already have some $ from another school that has made that one very appealing.
-
IdealThinker, why so nervous? What are your stats?

1) drive your hybrid or diesel car. 2) ask your parents, significant others, etc. for money 3) ask your undergrad dept chair 4) ask your alumni association 5) get an american express card - so you get points for your $ spent....or get an airline's credit card so you get points (maybe enough to get trip 3) 6) stop spending so much money on booze 7) narrow down your school choices 8) take out extra student loans in the fall to pay off your airfare charges.

LOL....so humble...now THAT attitude is going to get you places! Keep up the hard work, kaka!

Don't bump this thread, this is the dumbest question I've seen on the boards. I'd rather go through life without knowing that someone actually wonders whether rainbow sandals are allowed in grad school.

I just called to check on my application...no one is picking up the phone line. They're also not answering cipa@cornell.edu.....
-
Last year they received around 1800, and accepted I think 340. I would LOVE to hear numbers for this year.....
-
Congrats and great scores! Maybe I'll see you there in the fall! I think it is funny that, being a native english speaker, I got a 560 on my verbal and tied you for a 3.5 on the writing section....

I can't imagine that Georgetown is that much better re: relevance in the DC job market. If you look at Presidential Management Fellowships, Federal Career Interns, other government student positions, I bet they're near identical as far as access to DC-area jobs. In fact, there is a specific government program for people to go part time and work in the government. And if you like your job, why leave? Especially when the rent is so damn high....I couldn't imagine taking out $900/mo in student loans just for a shared 2 bedroom apt. around here. But then again, I want a break from the beltway anyways.

CUA masters in international affairs
fso2k11 replied to christina2006's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Being in DC, I can tell you that Catholic does not seem to be known for its programs in public affairs, IR, etc. I'm sure they have good contacts for internships & jobs, etc. (most DC schools do) but GW, Georgetown, American and Hopkins are all very well known for this. If only by virtue of the fact that they host politicians and statesmen from around the world on a regular basis. Even Maryland would be above Catholic in this regard, I have a feeling. CUA is known as a decent school though. If you're heart is set on working in DC and you don't have any other paths into the field, simply moving to DC and going to school anywhere in the area can do a lot. -
Did people exactly re-use their resume from the application? The MPP application required a salary history on your resume....did you include a salary history on your resume copy for fellowship applications too? I did not.
-
I applied for two. My essays were very similar (and also similar with my statement of purpose, where I took a lot of the language). I spent about 2 hours total on 2 fellowship essays....maybe it showed, I have no idea. With well less than a 20% acceptance rate, it's not worth my time to pour myself into my fellowships if I don't even get in to the school. If I stressed about this, I would go crazy.

Sorry, no I mean your qualities: GRE scores, school, GPA, work experience, years since graduating, how good are your recs, etc.?
-
On the HKS front, I called today and was informed that they will send out admissions by "the first week in April." Which essentially punted the question. I also know that this year's total applicant pool is the largest they've ever had (I don't know if thats the case across individual programs, though.)
