Really just depends on what type of system you're working on. Most of their employees (should) have their a regular laptop they can take home.

None of this is classified, so they wouldn't need to be using the classified networks (which are the computer systems that obviously cannot go home).

I am affiliated with a national lab and what we do definitely isn't classified but we do require VPNs to access a lot of our systems/databases. The databases/systems are often plagued with bugs too so honestly either access issue is probable to me.

You can tell that he has also given up hope on the process.

Honestly though, what kind of technical issues could actually be holding the process up? I mean at this rate they could just fax the applications back and forth and it would be faster...

Maybe it's a VPN service or some other issue that is preventing them from accessing their systems remotely? I think that's conceivable and something that the individual NDSEG offices wouldn't be able to control. Given that it's the DoD, I would imagine they need a lot of special permissions to work from home, but I'm not a computer person with no real government experience so that's purely my speculation.

I emailed the generic contact email given on the website about an hour ago - I'll report back when I hear anything

I'm surprised he hasn't responded yet. Rob responded in a couple minutes to me yesterday. Maybe that means he's busy, with dare I say, releasing the results. One can hope.

I really apologize if I’m missing a post clarifying this, but is the consensus for today that we may hear but we may also hear tomorrow?

Probably not until tomorrow according to NDSEG people. IT issues.

To me the size of December and February gang actually is in line with this theory. Slide 36 of the oft-cited http://www.oasdre-hbcumiworkshop.com/2019_presentations/07-Wisecarver_Robinson_HBCU_Workshop_with_AFOSR_overview.pdf notes that 30% of the top candidates move on to the DoD for selection. Right now about 66% of people in our spreadsheet have December thru February last updates, which is in line with the idea that anyone with an April update was being evaluated by the DoD.

I think the initial panel screen only went until 1/31 according to the panel tab on the NDSEG website so I'm not sure why people would get an update in late February if they weren't considered. Additionally the panel started reviewing applications after 12/15 so it doesn't make sense for people who have updates at the beginning of December (or Oct) unless there was something missing from their application or if they really did exclude people who didn't follow their instructions to a T (uploading a word document instead of PDF or with the wrong file name).

Also, in reference to the person talking about being excluded early from BAAs not having funding - my understanding from everything I have read and from a friend who also applied who asked the PMO several questions when applying, you aren't applying to the BAA, they just use that to make sure you are doing something of interest to them. so the pot of money for the BAA and NDSEG isn't the same. My guess is the agencies get even split of the money based on the number of applicants that apply to each branch.

Does NSF ever give awards to HMs? If those who are offered the award initially turn it down?

I don't know - I do know someone who once got an NSF HM and ended up receiving an award because they made a mistake, so they said.

  7. At least we now know the emails might not come all at once. And that it will be via email and not portal (I specifically asked that and he said email in his response).

  8. Asked him for a projected time and this was the response:

Thanks for following up with those questions.

We do not have a projected time today for the decisions to be released, and it could take as much as 24 hours for all of the email notifications to be processed. Many applicants could receive their notifications tomorrow.

so looks like Rob is not a bot. Also would post a screenshot but then I'd have to go on to my computer because a screenshot on my phone has size limitations and it's a whole thing.

Ok Rob, we heard this story yesterday. Y'all know how 1 dog year = 7 human years, Iim beginning to think 1 NDSEG day = 1 normal human month. ? I thought that some of the men I went on dates with in the past were pros at leading me on, but Rob they could learn a thing or two from you haha. (Just kidding I bet Rob is a lovely man)

'plot twist: Rob is a young fellow that is actually one of your previous dates

Is it at all possible that Mr. Ross is a bot? I just emailed him and he also got back to me saying that...he’s just too good at his job to be real right now.

I just responded to get more info so we shall see. he's going to be muttering jfc before its even 10am

  11. Also, I forgot that this happened - I made an account two years ago but didn't actually apply and just found the email that they sent notifying me of the "award status." It was administered by STI-Tec but that email came on April 13 at 4:39am PST. So it was pretty late that year.

Also, not that this really matters but there might be multiple PMOs because I've had emails from Sysplus signed by a Thomas P. Martinson and Kenneth Davis in addition to Rob Ross. I think they were either late putting the application online or I was antzy then so I emailed them back in August and Kenneth's signature says PMO. Or their jobs have changed.

    A summary of today...

Before noon: OMG today is the day! I'm ready to have the wait over!

Before 4:00: Okay, okay, they'll probably wait till the end of the work day we just have to wait a little longer

Before 5:30: Well... the workday really ends at 5:30... so that must be it

Before 7: Ummmm, I guess we only really knew it was coming out today and the official word is by 7

Before 7:30: ...it takes time to get the results out?...

After 7:30: I... um... it's not happening... is it?

Maybe it WILL be at 11 like NSF
