I read the other thread where a poster was interested in legal academia. I am in a similar position but am specifically interested in teaching legal writing (no interest in doctrinal positions). I have a JD from a T14 school, and a graduate humanities degree. I also have university teaching experience, though not in legal academia. A few publications in my previous academic career, but again, no legal publications. I am really after a permanent legal writing teaching position, with hopefully some opportunities to do clinics after I have been at the school for a bit.
I am currently a biglaw litigator in nyc. Does anyone have any general tips on making the transition to a legal writing teaching position? Any sense of how much practice experience would make me competitive for such positions, or what the minimum number of years in practice would be before I could apply? Thanks for any and all ideas.
