Just FYI, I emailed a POI at UChicago for some clarity on this statement and was told that they are cutting admissions significantly this year and will only be admitting a handful of students, all of whom will be in Black studies. I can't speak for other institutions but I imagine others may be making similar decisions.

Hi everyone, I know that personal and diversity statements have been discussed on here before – this is essentially a plea to ask if anyone who was successful in their application to Berkeley and/or another program that requires a personal statement would be willing to share their statement with me or, barring that, offer some advice on writing it. As a white male from a pretty privileged and traditional background, I must admit I'm at a complete loss here. Thanks everyone!
