  1. Thanks smb888! Any inputs on the questions? :)

I'm pretty sure for (1) you can do whatever you want, as long as you stay in the *field* you applied under (I guess Mathematics for you?).

For (2)...I have no idea, but I'd talk to your grad coordinator to figure it out. Most programs (like mine) require SOME teaching as a graduation requirement, and NDSEG has to work with them on this, so I'm sure there's some nice solution.

    Congrats!!

  2.  I'm fairly certain that it is based on what DoD agencies have put forth the names of the applicants that they want to fund. It just so happens that many times one agency will select a handful of applicants from the same field because that is the area of research that the agency believes is pertinent to its current area of research.

When you're awarded, do they tell you which agency funded you? If there's been positive results from only a single agency then that would confirm this..

  3. Since so many people are wondering the same thing, I contacted the NDSEG.

The people who received the email about still being considered are not waitlisted. Only a certain number of the awards have been announced. They still have awards to distribute, but are waiting on the DoD to provide them with more information.

    Hope that helps!

Ahh thank you! Any word on possible timeline (e.g., relax for now because they will take weeks..)?

  4. Because I might as well share my obsessing over minor changes in the NDSEG site, I'll note that now, if you try to login to ndseg.asee.org/award, the error is now "Could not log in" rather than saying the username or password is incorrect, which is what it said yesterday. It remains exceedingly silly to read meaning into minor site changes, but I want to believe that this points to results happening soon!

OK, to make *sure* I wasn't entering a wrong password, I RESET my password and tried again. Still "Either the email address or the password you entered is incorrect."

Is it still telling you that? You're not the only obsessive person :)

Mine still says "Incorrect password". Also, if I go here: https://ndseg.asee.org/award/awardees/, it says I've declined the award....

  6. Anyone here have an idea about the number of awards and chances?

My only hope is that being in the military is a benefit.

If I remember correctly, it varies WILDLY field to field. For Biosciences (where I applied instead of ME, stupidly) it's like < 5% whereas for some other fields (like Aero?) it's more like 15%

  7. In previous years people found out by logging in before the official emails went out, right (and noticing the site went down right before the announcement)? Is this the main site?

  8. Also, I can't view the status of my application.  Anyone else?

    Same.

As for the GRE thing, did you take multiple tests with ETS (e.g., a general and a subject test)? If so, the numbers might not match up. You should call ETS to get the right registration numbers...

  9. No, and I'm by no means implying that I certainly will.

I just figure that most things I would do to prepare for an interview would be beneficial regardless of whether or not I receive an interview, and was curious if anyone had suggestions on preparation.

Oh yes :) I hear quals studying is the perfect preparation!

  10. would anyone be willing to post their honorable mention text?

    Sure.

We wanted you to be aware that you made it through the last round of selection and we were very impressed with your credentials and saw much promise in your application. We strongly encourage you to reapply next year provided you remain eligible. Please refer to our website for details of the eligibility criteria,http://www.krellinst.org/csgf/.

  11. Sooo, if the process is in-line with last year's, we should get rejected today (since Gray28's husband has till tomorrow to accept / reject)...

  12. Originally I sent it to csgf@ but Lindsey responded from her email, and then proceeded from there.

Thanks! I called this morning to make sure she got my updates. She said something along the lines of: "I'm really sorry I don't have any updates for you. Hopefully soon we'll have something for you...I know we say that all the time, and you probably don't believe me. I'm really sorry!"

Lindsey is so nice! You can tell she really feels our pain :)

  13. Yeah pub went from 'in preparation for submission' to 'submitted' haha. Also she wanted me to let her know 'asap' if I got any other fellowships, and I got the nsf last week... doesn't seem like it has hurried my decision for the csgf yet though.

Did anyone else have her urging them to tell her about other fellowships? I assume she was asking because of the ndseg but it's hard to get a good read...

Can I ask what email you sent it to? Csgf@ or directly to Lindsey?

  14. That would be true but I don't think that I can lose hope (although I wish I could) until I get the official rejection.

Yeah, same -- I'm all talk.

  15. She responded to an email I had, and it doesn't sound too bright for us that haven't heard:

"Honestly, this is quite a weird year for us and I am not sure we will be offering anymore fellowships at this point. Although we may be. I know this is a super vague answer and I am so sorry for that. I can't imagine how frustrating this must be for you and for that I feel absolutely terrible."

Oh..that sucks, but it's actually a bit relieving to give up..

  16. I'm also waiting eagerly to hear back... I emailed the coordinator on Wednesday to update my application and she said, "I am hoping to send out notifications within the next day or two!"

Which sounds like she will tell both the remaining sucessful and unsucessful applicants soon, and not drag it out for weeks. It looks like, however, I'm not going to get a notification before next week.... It's hard to discern whats going on at her end....

Did you update your app with new publications or something? I had no idea we were allowed to do that! I guess it gives me another excuse to call :P
