Good to know!!! That's a little comforting. Still York makes me nervous with their history lol

"Members Approve Provisional Strike Timeline POSTED ON MAY 20, 2021 BY COMMS OFFICER At our SGMM yesterday (May 19th), the membership grappled with the Employer’s continued reluctance to bargain in good faith on our proposals. The collective agreements for CUPE 3903 Units 1, 2, and 3 expired on August 31, 2020. Since then we have collected data, and on December 9th, presented the Employer a concise package of proposals. Our proposals aim to affirm job security for contract faculty, and promote employment equity, which aligns with York’s publicly stated commitment to ensure equity, diversity and inclusion. Despite the Union’s expressed desire and efforts to address these issues concretely and expeditiously in the context of the pandemic, the Employer has engaged with our proposals minimally. Given how protracted movement has been at the bargaining table, the membership has approved a provisional strike timeline in order to consider the next steps in the bargaining process, and has restated their support for the Bargaining Team; they urge the Employer to bargain seriously." Nothing for sure, but given how many times York has had strike issues in the last 20 years... this is not making me feel more confident in pursuing studies there.

Waitlisted for PJ and JI for the second year even after getting tons more experience and taking another course I did very well in to bump my grades. I hope maybe I'll hear back this year. Never heard back last year. I accepted my York offer, but now the potential of strike at York has me panicked. I wish I could ask what keeps me from getting accepted. But their policy is not to reveal their deliberations to any applicants.

Was in the same boat last year. They refuse to provide any feedback regarding their decision making process.
-
Hey there! Last year I was waitlisted for J/I (which I have the most experience in) and rejected from P/J and I/S.
-
I think it's quite significantly more than this... Probably like 100 at least? I'd think.

Hi all! I applied to MT again for 2021 September, all divisions, after being waitlisted and never admitted last year. I'm a U of T graduate of Indigenous Studies and Geography, with various youth work, tutoring, and school-based experience. My GPA is probably just at the B+ mark now. However last year I applied way later in April. I took another course in the Fall semester to up my GPA and took an additional tutoring position to up my appeal. I'm really hoping I can finally make it. This will be my third year trying for teaching programs around Toronto. I've been waitlisted/rejected from several programs. It's so competitive. Good luck to everyone, I hope we hear back soon!

Congratulations!!! Did they email?

FK I actually just saw your post on the Facebook group! That's amazing, congratulations!!! I hope it goes well this semester for you.

Hi everyone - I've checked this page every day since June, and appreciated the support. For those of us who didn't get in, I wish us the best of luck in reapplying, applying elsewhere, or pursuing a different path. Despite this not being what I planned for, for those of you who want to be teachers, this is another year we can improve ourselves and acquire new knowledge to share with the students we'll be teaching one day. ? Cheers!

One person just got accepted (presumably off waitlist) to J/I on Friday. She posted in the FB group.
-
Nothing ?
-
Maybe no waitlist admissions up to this point?! Hard to believe. There must be some... Maybe we just haven't heard.
-
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2914316008661014/?ref=share I think they're referring to this one? ^ I haven't seen anyone talking about getting in recently or getting in off the waitlist at all.
-
Thanks for sharing AI! Sucks to be on hold for so long. But at least there's still hope.
-
Ah, OK, that makes a lot of sense. I know that some ppl applied later than me (March) and got in already. So I think I'll contact them to see if I could see and discuss my qualifications.
-
Were you able to pinpoint what it might be in your 2020 app that wasn't up to their acceptance standards? Sorry to hear you haven't heard back. This is what I'm struggling with. I'm not sure if I should go back and take a course or volunteer again, or what

Especially because of COVID and the shift to all online learning. People might put off the experience for another year.

I still have an inkling of hope. My friend, who finished MT two years ago, said that people joined her class up to the first week of classes! Also, there's people on the accepted FB group that haven't received confirmation of their transcripts and such. I think they're very behind due to COVID. However, I would start making/considering alternate plans at this point. I'm applying to full-time positions related to teaching/ed in order to boost my profile for the next round of applications. This might not be relevant to your application but: my three friends who have finished at OISE MT in the last three years have all been highly disappointed with their time there. My main motivation for applying is to get my Masters, rather than a Bachelor of Ed at York or another school. However, they wanted me to know that, in terms of supply opportunities and LTOs, teachers with a Bachelor of Ed have had the same opportunities in schools as the Masters degree holders. They also said OISEs promise of Masters teachers being on a higher pay grade than Bachelors teachers is mostly bull****. All that to say: if you don't get in, maybe there's less to be disappointed about? ? Idk.
-
Congrats all!!! I'm still on the MT waitlist. ?
-
I joined the FB group just to see if anyone is getting off the waitlist, but I haven't seen anyone explicitly say that.
-
Not I
-
We can hope! ???
-
Ah, sorry to hear this. Have you recieved any waitlist or accepted decision? I was waitlisted and I'm losing hope as I haven't been invited. A friend of mine said there were ppl accepted up until the first week of classes but I best make alternative plans at this point
