  1. Hey! I'm starting my MSW in the fall, and am taking the LSAT next month to apply my dual law degree. I don't have too much info since I'm not in the program, but I am using it to have a more well-rounded approach to social justice law. I'm not sure about all programs, but the ones I've seen all follow the same general format. You enter in one program (either MSW or law) and complete your first year entirely in that field. Your second year is going to be the first year curriculum for the other degree. Then, the third and fourth years will be both curriculums at once. That's just going off a non-advanced MSW 2 year program, and the standard 3 year law program. I hope that helps!

I applied back in October and emailed the grad contact yesterday and got this response:

Thank you for your interest in the Steve Hicks School of Social Work. Your application is in review and you should have a decision within 10 to 15 weeks.

Here's hoping that's a major exaggeration. I haven't been able to find anyone else who's received a response yet though, so maybe they're just extremely delayed thanks to covid?

Did yours say anything before the status changed to in review? I submitted my last letter in mid-November, but my status has said something like forwarded to graduate committee since late October/Early November. But I don't remember getting an email about the status change or a timeline.

  3. Hi everyone!

I was hoping people could give me advice on their thoughts on dual degrees, specifically JD/MSW. I would want to do something along the lines of human rights law/immigration law most likely. I've heard both good and bad things, but some people say it's great for job opportunities while others say it's a complete waste of money. Thanks!
