What areas of interest did you indicate on your application for UTSW? I know you could indicate up to three areas of interest and you're not directly admitted to a track, but just the umbrella program. However, I imagine that what areas you indicate do somewhat affect your application because they obviously don't need an entire cohort of cancer biologists, neuroscientists, etc.
I applied to IU Bloomington for micro and haven't head back. I haven't heard from UTSW or Washington, but some people have gotten interviews from UTSW. I got an interview for Minnesota MiCAB today.
I didn't apply for a specific program because I don't recall seeing that section on the application. I listed pathogenesis & infection as my area of interest and pathogenesis, infection, and immunity in the program supplemental then just mentioned in my statement which specific program I was interested in.
Oh that makes a lot more sense. From what i have heard from applicants in previous years, they invited about 300 people to interview for about 100 spots.
Congrats on getting an interview!
Was that for last cycle or this cycle? From what I've heard, UNC invites about 3x more applicants for interviews than they plan to extend invites to, so I would say they most likely use it for evaluation. Though I am sure they do have some applicants where they are trying to recruit more than evaluate.
I applied for micro/immuno programs:
UNC BBSP (they sent out interviews for those who submitted via priority deadline on Friday and I need did not get one)
Cornell
University of Minnesota (MiCAB)
Scripps Research
UT Southwestern
Indiana University
OHSU
University of Washington.
What about you?
I know UNC BBSP sent out their first round of interview invites today. I have heard from admissions directors that there is almost double the applications in micro and biomed programs.
I applied to biomedical PhD programs for Fall 2021... not feeling super hopeful. I agree there hasn't been much of a community like in previous years on here for applicants.
