  1. Does GSAS ever reject students? I have reason to believe that the department sent my app to GSAS (otherwise my POI would have told me I was rejected when he replied to my email).
  2. I was interviewed. I don't know if it is valid, but it could be, dunno. My understanding is that CUNY has very little money (think about it, it isn't even a state school), so getting rejected there probably means nothing in relation to NYU.
  3. I think NYU might be going through the same thing as UPenn right now. My guess is the department has made the decisions, but the decisions need to be approved by the graduate school (GSAS at NYU). I emailed my POI and he told me they won't have the final list until morning. Persiandoc might have his information early because he is international (and giving him extra time gives him extra time for a Visa).
  4. I got a CUNY rejection on the 18th, I know the NYU information is being released tomorrow (25th). In the morning, I will be either very happy or very sad.
  5. Part of the problem with Wisconsin is the unions themselves (not for the reasons you might think). If the unions actually mobilized people to vote for Democrats in November, their state legislature would have never flipped and none of this would be happening. (I support unions but detest political apathy; the lack of voting that occurred in November really annoys me)
  6. Congrats. Your news is making me a lot more nervous now though. It seems your POI decided to break the silence. When is their recruiting weekend? What's the purpose of the recruiting weekend when they introduced us to everyone relevant at our interview dates (for those of us interviewed).
  7. It appears one professor broke the silence. On the other thread persiandoc said they got in. This is making me tenser. I sent an email to my POI on Friday, but I don't know if the email just got missed (it was a long weekend after all) or purposely ignored. I was banking on the latter, but now that someone got in...
  8. I was told to email the chair (who is not my POI) for the final decision. Note: I am a biological anthropology applicant, the chair (Harrison) is bio too. You guys probably should just email the grad sec for details for the other subfields, because I don't know if Harrison has info on the admits from the other subfields.
  9. Last week the grad sec told me that decisions would be made by the 18th and revealed on the 25th. Assuming there are serious fights is over-reading. There me some other reason for delaying release one week.
  10. I just asked whether the final decision had been made.
  11. has anyone tried emailing their POI? I did, but I have not gotten any response. Are all the professors staying hush?
  12. You guys may be overconfident that results from NYU come out today. The grad sec. (as well as my POI) told me that decisions are made by today, but the grad sec also told me to email the department chair (who is not my POI) for the decision on or after the 25th. While decisions are made, they may not be official yet. FYI I am a bioanth applicant, and the chair is a bioanth prof. Other subfields might have to email someone else for the decision information. I emailed my POI today just in case. No response yet.
  13. Well I think for NYU that is only true if you weren't interviewed.
  14. someone seems to have gotten an NYU reject on the results page.
  15. exact same feeling.
  16. I was stupid enough to use my first name as my username (just changed that). In early posts I did note my pecking order... I don't think my prof at my top choice knows about this site, but still...
  17. Has anyone ever heard of professors looking at this site? When I first came to this forum, I gave a little too much information, and now I am getting last minute agitations about what I posted in Oct/Nov
  18. They're not. They had 3 physical anthropologists in 1995, two (White and Milton) defected from the department. In 1999, the third one retired. In 2004-ish Anthro hired two physical anthropologists (Deacon and Agarwal) and some time around then IB hired Hlusko. There are five physical anthropologists total, but only two are in Anthropology. There are people in Integrative Biology in addition to White/Hlusko who do stuff relevant to physical anthropology, but who aren't physical anthropologists themselves. Basically Berkeley's anthropology department is filled with postmodernists that have no respect for science, who let the physical anthropologists retire one-by-one and replaced them with postmodernist socials. It has reached the point where an archaeologist has started to defect from Anthropology to Integrative Biology as well.
  19. I emailed the NYU grad sec. about when decisions would be made. When I get a response, I will tell you. I specified that I was applying for biological anthropology, so whatever response I get might only be valid for biological anthro.
  20. http://www.dailycal.org/article/185/department_faces_extinction Please read this before, you even think of calling Berkeley's Anthropology department.
  21. Has anyone receive formal/informal acceptance into any of the NYCEP programs? I am waiting on these.
  22. The wait for NYU is getting agonizing, especially since it is my top school and I know I am on the shortlist
  23. Socio-cultural is bigger, so more people end up reviewing those apps I assume (and as a result, socio decisions take longer to be made).
  24. I am breaking my silence. I know NYU is admitting ten people this year. Four will bioanth, not sure how the other six will be broken up between archaeology/social. I am bioanth. I was told my admissions decision will be coming this week. NYU is my top choice, so I am very anxious.
  25. Cultural Anthropology and Biological Anthropology generally follow their own admissions calendars, so that isn't necessarily relevant to you.
