  1. I think I got it sorted out - we've got these no appointment clinics that are on the inexpensive end, and they said they could take care of it for pretty cheap Which is good because some of the other clinics I called in town were crazy expensive! My paperwork says something about there being specific medical tests required for different countries - anyone have any idea what spain's are? I tried to call the embassy (IIE made it very clear in the letter they don't want calls about this) but they were closed for the day (apparently they close at 2?!). Also what are people's thoughts on the "Optional" tests? I mean... if it's only optional, and I'm paying out of pocket I'm opting for not paying for them... thoughts anyone?
  2. Thanks for this! but apparently Zocdoc doesn't exist in Oregon yet
  3. DAH DAH DAH!!! We've reached 100 pages! And its not even may XD
  4. Okay freaking out a lil about the medical exams... I don't have a primary care physician - I almost never get sick so I just haven't needed one, that and I have no insurance... so anyways I have no idea who to call or where to go Any suggestions? What are other people doing if you're in my shoes? just walking into the hosipital lobby and saying, gee, who can fill though out for me?
  5. Yeah I got it in Oregon at my current address.
  6. I got the grant! Full MBA to Spain! So excitedright now!!
  7. Yes readtiwin it is highly possible and maybe even likely. I sat on the alternate list for JET for a whole year. Don't make the same mistake I did. That year was hell because I didn't let it go. Do yourself a favor: let it go assume you've lost it And move on. Then if you get it, it'll be a pleasant surprise and if you don't then you're not hanging out in limbo for the next 6 months. Trust me when I say you don't want to do that to yourself.
  8. Mine would be a Full to attend the Instituto de Empresas in Madrid and earn an IMBA. Maybe we'll meet at the orientation in Spain in September to to find something to occupy myself with until tomorrow...
  9. I too am on the west coast and my fingernails are chewed to nubs! What part of Spain would you be going to if you get it? ETA or Full? I'm going for the Full MBA... Good luck to us both!
  10. FYI Spain folks - I called Rachel 'cause I wanted to make sure the letters for my program were sent out (I applied for the MBA program, so i didnt' want to be sitting here all worked up only to find out that because it is a specialized program they weren't sent out with the other letters). anyways she said Spain letters were sent out on Friday. I'm in Oregon and I haven't gotten mine yet. I'm hoping tomorrow!
  11. OMG! I was already on my way to the post office when I read this and I suddenly had a very heavy lead foot... :# And there was nothing there. Tomorrow I hopes.... Oh man the anxiety just went up like 10 fold...
  12. If this were facebook, I would totally "like" this comment! You tell 'em crimson!
  13. Really it depends on what you want to do later in life. I mean they're both great programs. I think fulbright is more prestigious sure but its only 8 - 9 months. Jet could potentially go on for 5 years. Jet also pays really well - better then fulbright. But I see jet as setting a career trajectory towards teaching english wherer as fulbright has name recognition and prestige that would aid you anywhere you go. Also, having lived in japan for a few months I ca,e away with the impression that though it is an awesome place to visit, its not a place to set down roots. Besides being damn near impossible, the japanese are very ethnocentric in their thinking making acceptence there a rare thing for a foreignor. I felt like any time I spent there, though exciting and amazing was a waste of time in terms of my overall life goals because I could t make anything permanent work there. Where as with the fulbright you could be making contacts that could lead to something amazing and exciting. O it could be as transitory as jet. Really its up to you. If it qere me I would go for the fulbright. But then again I applied for a full grant that will earn me anm MBA. I sujppose as an ETA you'd be doing similar if not the same think as you would on the jet program. Except jet lasts longer and pays better. Hmm. Also id argue with the whole competitveness thing... I thin k jet is more competitive - especially since it has been declining in recent years while demand has been increasing. Last year there were over 5000 applicants for about 1500 spaces. I applied two years running - made alternate the first year and nothing the second year.
  14. Please do tell us what her response is!
  15. I have been chomping at the bit to email her about Spain but I figured I would wait until just after the first to start the nagging- then they'll be officially late and I'll feel more entitled to ask...
  16. I was an alternate for the JET program... and they let me hang for a whole year. It was horrible. I don't think the Fulbright program is like that - I think that they have shorter wait times (relatively). Cheer up though, I thought I read somewhere that there is a 40% chanceof upgrade, and they might even send you to a different country. As fas as being an alternate goes, from what i understand, it means you are good, great in fact, but there are some people out there whose applications appealed more to the committee - however, just because these people are chosen doesn't mean they will accept. The committee wants to have some qualified backup candidates who are eager to go. That's where the alternates come in. It's a hard place to be - on the one hand you want to move on and figure out what's next, on the other hand that nagging voice in the back of your mind says what if... Best advice I can give has already been said. put fulbright out of your mind. pretend that you didn't get it and move on. figure out the next best thing. and then if fulbright does come through, it will either be a pleasant surprise or no big deal cause you've lined up something better.
  17. Buena suerte! What part of Ecuador would you go to? I work out of otavalo a lot. Beautiful country! Good luck!
  18. Lol I did that about a week ago... I dreamt I got the acceptence, woke up VERY happy, realized it was just a dream, went back to sleep and dreamed the same thing again. I hope twice in a row counts toward the more prophetic side of dreams... Also, Yay for the large amount of washingtonians! I live in oregon now, but originally I am from Olympia WA!
  19. weeks?! So much for getting them out before April 1st. arg. well thanks for emailing her! I appreciate it! Hoooray! I made it to caffeinated! I'm officially addicted to this forum
  20. Any Spain people willing to email/call Rachel holskin and ask when Spain notifications will be sent?
  21. A thought occurred to me... Most forums I've ever participated in are usually the busiest at night, but this forum is dead a night for the most part but picks up the busiest in the middle of the day... right around mail time. LOL.
  22. Congrats to everyone that got accepted! I sure hope that everyone's theory about European countries notifying soon turns out to be true. According to last year's spreadsheet, Spain didn't notify until late April I don't think I can handle another month of suspense - especially now that the board is exploding with notifications! the Spain Fulbright site says that they will notify before April 1st... so I guess I'll just have to hope they're running on schedule. Spain People! Post to the board the instant you get your notification so that the rest of us can rush to our mail boxes... >.>
  23. https://us.fulbrightonline.org/documents/resources/Terms_Conditions.pdf On number three it says... "No applicant may receive concurrently a grant from the Fulbright Student Program and a grant from the Doctoral Dissertation Research Program."
  24. Actually I thought I read in that document about additional funding that you could not have funding for a PhD and Fulbright at the same time...
