  1. Hello! I'm currently looking at UVic's Master of Social Work Foundations program for 2022, and I am wondering what I should do to be considered competitive. If there is anyone who has been accepted in to the program, or anyone who has been accepted in to a MSW program in Canada, I would like some input I have a BA in Psychology with a GPA of 3.8. I have been working in an undergraduate research lab for the past 5 years with a few poster presentations under my belt and (hopefully) a journal publication with third author on a study I have worked on for the past few years, but that is still in progress. I also have completed my honours thesis as relevant research experience. What I feel like I lack is the experience: I am currently employed as a residential worker (2000 hours currently, should be between 5000 - 6000 by the time I apply), and I see that other applicants have much more experience than myself. I am wondering what kind of volunteer experience I should aim to get between now and the next application period. I'm also wondering how much my research experience will be considered when applying. I know that MSW programs tend to look for practical experience, so I'm unsure of how my research background will benefit my application. UVic is my top choice for school for multiple reasons, and I want to make sure I can give myself every opportunity to improve my chances of acceptance when I apply. If there are any other criteria you can think of that they would focus on, I would appreciate some information on that My apologies if I come off as uninformed. Since most of my connections are in psychology, I really do not have a lot of people to ask these questions to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
