After six rejections I got an offer from UCR! I’m over the moon! Best Valentine’s Day gift ever!

Welp, got denied from my top school (UCLA). Still waiting to hear back from UCR after my “chat” with my POI and from UCI (no interview). Stanford rejected me but no surprise there. Congratulations to those who have received acceptances! If all fails this year I will be applying again next year before I lose my positivity. I didn’t realize how competitive this cycle was until I came to this forum.

My POI at UCR emailed me last Friday asking to speak with me via phone or zoom. After we set a date/time she said she would invite the director of the GSC. I have not heard from any other POIs from any other schools, but I know not every school does interviews/chats.

2nd rejection tonight and from USC's American Studies program. My remaining programs are all now in history so whichever school rejects me next will actually hurt... 2nd time around applying (first time was in 2014) and was determined in applying last year before COVID happened. Figured I should push through and try again next year if needed. Good luck, everyone!!!!

Hello! Ph.D applicant this year and I received an informal chat request from POI at UCR which took place on Monday (and she invited the director of the department's Graduate Studies Committee, meeting was about 40 mins long). Before that, I was asked for my official transcripts (posted such on the results page). Sounds promising, but I am still nervous because it sounded as if their decision would be based on my transcripts which won't arrive until the end of this week. Last night I received a rejection from UCSB's Chicana/o Studies Dep but am still waiting to hear back from Stanford, UCLA and UCI's History program and USC's American Studies. Denials/acceptances are consuming my thoughts and I am constantly checking this website for results and randomly checking school portals/my email. If anyone wants to send me a DM feel free to do so.
