Hey guys, I have been keeping up with this thread for the past few days. It seems like you all have been in this together for a long time and are super supportive. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I was wondering if any people here with their master's degree could help me out?

I don't have any friends in the same field of me and no one else in my family has gotten their master's. I was just acceptedi into a program, but kind of feel lost. I have no idea how grad school actually works. Haha, I don't know if I sound dumb or not, but I would genuinely appreciate any advice/guidance anyone could give!

Hi! I would be more than happy to help as much as I can. I'm finishing a two-year Master's program, and I myself had so many doubts about doing a Master's at that time. So maybe I can share my experience with you. Just DM!

I also interviewed at UCI but have heard nothing since. May I ask what your specialization is? Happy to see another Irvine hopeful here :)

Happy to see you too! I work on the global circulation of contemporary cultural production from the Middle East. But my areas of interest more broadly are Feminism, gender, and sexuality in the Global South, psychoanalysis, deconstruction, and questions of postcoloniality and globalization. How about you?

I asked a current PhD student at Cornell; they said that Cornell Comp Lit usually did not interview applicants. But someone posted on the result page that they recently got an interview invitation. Maybe this year is different? I also haven't heard from Cornell yet. Super confused and anxious.

I feel you. This is nerve-racking. It just doesn't make sense for a program to inform rejections before acceptances. So probably they already gave out all the interview/acceptances that they wanted to offer...

No, never assume a rejection until you get one (especially if you were interviewed)! That other interview was me! I am extremely lucky that I connected with a current student there over this application process and they were nice enough to let me know that there have been some delays because of typical bureaucracy stuff plus a new DGS. It could be this week, but I wouldn't be surprised if it took until next week. I'm sure you are dying like I am....

What are your AOI, btw? Mine is social political philosophy, 20th century Continental philosophy (especially Deleuze and Foucault), psychoanalysis, queer theory, and digital media (I have done a lot on Internet sub cultures). I also flagged that I studied film in undergrad and I'm interested in German expressionism and horror, but I honestly haven't done any of that since undergrad, but I would love to be able to get back into film analysis.

Hi! Thanks for your response and for letting me know!!! Then I hope we both hear good news in the following weeks...fingers crossed!!

Interesting set of topics!!  My areas of interest more broadly are feminism, gender, and sexuality in the global south, psychoanalysis (especially Lacan), deconstruction, and questions of postcoloniality and globalization. I am also interested in adding a film and media aspect to my project.

  5. Hi everyone! I've been checking this website for a while but just created an account to be able to also post here. Applied to Comp Lit programs + Duke's Literature. I was wondering does anyone have any updates about Duke? I got an interview and they told me they will try to get back to everyone by the end of January but I haven't heard back yet. I know that someone else also got an interview on this website. Should I assume a rejection at this point?
