Well, I never thought I would be in this position because, quite frankly, I didn't think I would get into more than one (or any) grad program. I am planning on a masters in molecular biology, with the possibility of Phd -- I didn't want to commit to PhD until I am more certain of my research concentration area. One offer is from a large state school and is fully funded -- tuition + stipend, but also need to put in 15-20 hours week as a TA. The other school is a prestigious private school. No teaching required, but also need to pay out of pocket for tuition (with some scholarship money, but still leaving me with a not insignificant tuition bill). I have no undergrad debt due to a full academic ride. Is it silly to give up a fully paid masters for a dream school very well known in the field? I'm torn between being practical (no debt from grad school) or going to the private school. They both have strong PhD placements -- the private school a bit higher, but the state school is still acceptable. And honestly, I may go into industry instead of PhD (I sound like a hot mess, I know). I have two other schools to consider -- one I've already ruled out as it's similar to the large state school but without a generous stipend; the last school I haven't heard back from yet but do have an interview later this week (so it may be moot if I don't get in). Has anyone else been in this situation? What did you decide? Any regrets? TYIA.
