I see that there are historical threads on this but just wanted to get a fresh set of perspectives on this. I applied for a PhD, which offers a path to the Masters. Although I submitted my app to the PhD, I got accepted to the Masters. I never received a rejection from the PhD, so it appears as though they moved my app into the Masters pool. Not sure what to make of this. I was hoping to enter the PhD and obtain the Masters along the way. This program was/is my first choice, but a non-terminal degree would not make sense for me since I am already well established in my field outside of the academy. The reason why I want to go to grad school is to obtain a PhD, not to up my skillset or accumulate debt to get the exact same type of job that I already have... So my question is: do you have any advice for how to proceed in this situation? Is it worth pursuing/inquiring about the possibility of a contingent offer to the PhD upon completing the Masters -- or is that a silly question / not at all how PhD funding "works"? For context, so far I have been waitlisted by a PhD program that offers a Masters along the way, and I am still waiting to hear back from one more. Not sure how to navigate all this. Many thanks!

@xarx @gizemnoktay re georgia tech - i saw on results page that someone got waitlisted via phone. this makes me think acceptances must have already gone out too but i still haven’t heard anything either way... what about you both?

Looking at the results page, I see that the Georgia Tech HCI-DM Masters results came out today... hopefully this is a sign that the regular DM results are coming soon as well. @xarx

If it means anything, my two theories are 1) I got rejected from PhD and put into the Masters pool.... or 2) Maybe I got preliminarily accepted to the PhD contingent upon completion of the Masters, and therefore reentered in system as a Masters student ? Praying for the latter, and thanks for entertaining my frantic energy... wishing you the best of luck as well!

Hey! On the .edu/apply page before you open your application. For me it says Masters now. I think this could mean a few possible diff things if not a glitch in system lol. Do you already have a Masters?

@gizemnoktay @KatGrad757 My portal for GA Tech Digital Media PhD changed... It used to say I applied to the PhD and now it says Masters (I didn't, but I don't already have a Masters). I haven't heard anything yet. Any change/updates for either of you?

Hello I applied to a PhD program without a Master's degree, but the program separately offers a Master's, which I thought I could obtain on track to the PhD. The PhD program does not require a Master's for admission. The portal initially said that I submitted my application to the PhD program, but now it changed to say that I submitted it to the Master's (I didn't). What do you think is going on here - I was rejected from PhD and put into Master's pool?
