Still waiting on UVIC’s online MPA

Aweh sorry to hear! Had you applied anywhere else? I only applied to UVIC so I only have my ‘eggs in one basket’. Fingers crossed for an admission but I am not too hopeful, was rejected last year.

Has anyone got an offer from University of Victoria for MPA Online for September 2022? I am anxiously waiting.. they gave out offers the first week of April last year.

I applied for online program! I think they usually send them out a bit later than the on campus but I am not totally sure. Hopefully get some good news soon. I didn’t get in last year and it was the only school I applied too. Can you ask Ryerson for an extension if needed? Hoping time is on your side!

I emailed paservice@uvic.ca and garo@uvic.ca and nothing. I would think they’d respond by now since most people have accepted and paid their deposits so they’d have a bit of extra capacity but I guess not.

Did you receive any feedback from UVIC? I am still waiting two months later..

Honestly it is starting to seem that way - everyone has 20+ years of government experience and a 4.0 GPA.. You sound like a really talented applicant with loads of relevant experience. It is a UVIC‘a loss and congrats for getting into U of Sask! I should have applied to more schools and now I definitely will next year. I really thought I had a chance this year and now I am laughing at myself for being so naive! I emailed UVIC yesterday to ask for feedback on my application and haven’t received a response - I imagine it will be a generic email with not much detail which leaves me in the dark further. Sigh.

I should look into some upgrading as well.. maybe a certificate or something at Camosun. Volunteering more. My Bachelor is in a more STEM area but funny enough is I currently work with policy, I talked about a big project in my statement of intent but guess it wasn’t enough. After seeing all the great candidates on here who were rejected, I feel so in the dark in what they are looking for. Some really talented people turned away. I am not sure of the online MPA acceptance rate but I heard it is quite low.

Me too.. got my rejection this morning. I know, it’s not the end of the world but I did have a few tears. This past year has been one of the worst and I was really hoping for this to be a bright light for me. I have no idea what they (UVic) is looking for to be honest.

Sorry to hear that! It seems common for people to apply a couple of times before getting in, this will be my first year applying. Are you a mature student? (I.e graduated four years or more ago) I will be looking at Dalhousie too if I get rejected, we have until June 1 to apply. I didn’t know U of S had an online MPA so thank you for the info.

Anyone else hear from UVIC Online MPA? Waiting for their second round of offers.. does anyone know how long do the people offered admission last week have to accept or decline?

Thank you mars_maa for the detailed, informative reply - I really appreciate it. We have similar backgrounds! I struggled in my undergrad and had a similar GPA to you, my last two years were better but again not high enough to be ‘competitive’ by any means. I am also a mature student, I got my undergrad in 2015. I started with the BC Public Service back in 2017, it is almost my four year anniversary. I work as a policy analyst currently in health. It is great to hear about your experience working with a variety of important stakeholders - I should have emphasized my stakeholder engagement more! (Hindsight is 20/20 ha.) I included four references all who provided what I hope was a good reference haha! I haven’t received a rejection and my status reads “Under Review by Department”. I suppose it’s better than a rejection, I am trying to be positive and think maybe I am on a wait list or in the next round of admissions and will receive one on Tuesday ? Would be fantastic to connect more if I get admitted! I will keep you posted. Not sure how UVic’s ‘rejection’ works, if they send an email or if I just don’t hear at all! Fingers crossed in the meantime..
