    Thank you!

And how did you accepted the scholarship? In the portal I don't see any way of accepting it. Did you just sent a message saying you accept the scholarship?

I sent a message through the portal saying that I am going to accept the scholarship and confirming the departure date... they replied a few days ago and said that the official letter of award will be issued soon!

Hi, congrats!!! Did you already  receive an official letter?

Not yet (and my status is still blank at the moment) but I received the notification that I was selected via DAAD portal last week!

Hi everyone! I was also notified that I won the scholarship. Anyone knows what are the following steps? Which documents should we send and where?

Thank you very much and good luck!

    Hey, congratulations!
I think it depends on where you are applying from, try contacting your regional office. I simply accepted the scholarship and confirmed the departure dates by sending a message via DAAD portal, but I still haven't received the official award letter, just a notification through the portal.

  3. Hey all! Last friday I received a message through the portal telling me that I have won the scholarship, even though my status is still "selection made". I expect it to change to funding in the next few days or so... They've told me the award letter should be on its way. So glad the wait is over! Should anybody need tips on how to write their proposal for the short term research grants let me know, in the meantime I wish you all the best of luck and I'm glad to have found you guys through this forums bc the anxiety is rrreal!! :D

  4. Wow thank you guys for sharing your experience! I think in your case the motivation letter is really what they are looking at... I was a bit disappointed because in my case (short term research) they didn't ask for a proper motivation letter, they just wanted to see my research project and CV + letter of acceptance from my german supervisor... so it's a little bit harder to stand out among so many applicants! Fingers crossed though, and congrats for your achievement! :)

Guys, I received another message from the same woman who answered me that there were no interviews: she thought I applied for a Research programme ?. She said quite clearly that there is no chance at all to get the scholarship without an interview... now I can wait quietly for my rejection letter ? good luck to everyone!

You applied for the Master's program right? Too bad ? But yes it seems that they are only interviewing the prospective Master's students (at least from what they told me from the Italian office)

  6. Good morning everyone! So today I was panicking because I have seen in here that many people had an interview, but I didn't. I contacted the regional daad office in Rome and they said that there will be no interviews for PhD short term grants... which made me feel *slightly* better. I assume the interviews were only held for Masters scholarships and some specific PhD programs?

It's pretty sad ? I really hope I will be able to find a job there I guess... with covid is even more difficult

I don't think I want to give up and I am planning to go anyway if I get accepted and try again for DAAD next year. Anyone coming to munich?

Yes, there is just an interview, but it should be pretty formal for physics from what I have heard

If you're planning to move anyways you can consider erasmus traineeship as a post-grad (if you don't want to apply for the masters in Germany without a DAAD scholarship). You just need to find a mentor within the University or a lab who is willing to take you in as a trainee, and from this year you get 450 eur per month (I think you can stay for up to one year). It's a decent plan B, you get training, networking, and get some money for it - and you can keep working on your daad application for next year!

Hi! I applied from Austria in November for a long term PhD research grant, and I received the same letter saying that the scholarship meeting would be in March, and I'd get my results within three weeks after that. No news since then, only that they are busy because of COVID. Your results will not come before July then, and there are chances that mine won't either.

Omg I guess then maybe I shouldn't necessarily expect a result in July... Fingers crossed though!

Did you apply in March 2020 and you just received this e-mail? Or you applied in March 2021?

    March 2021 :)

However somebody in the forums was saying that they applied in November 2020 for the same scholarship and as of April 2021 still didn't have any news ?

  9. @Italians, I got an update via the portal for the short term PhD research grants.

"Your application is complete and will be considered in the selection process. A funding decision will be made at the selection meeting in June 2021 on the basis of the submitted documents. We will inform you of the outcome as a rule approximately within three weeks after the meeting in writing."

my status is still application submitted. If the meeting will be held in June, I assume we will get our results in July?

  10. Don't know about you guys, but last January I also applied for a Gerda Henkel PhD scholarship and I got my rejection letter today. Kinda disappointed but I could see that coming to be honest. Still fingers crossed for DAAD!
Also for all European PhD students here who are willing to do their abroad period in Germany but are still waiting for the outcome of the DAAD, Erasmus scholarships should be compatible with DAAD - at least from what I gather - and are so much easier to get!

    Here: https://www.daad.de/en/coronavirus/

But I was talking about the Masters's one, don't know if it also applies to PhD ?

Before I said that I found that on the italian DAAD website, but now I realise it is on the general one, I just found the link on the italian site.

I don't know if I should write a mail, because our deadline was in november... That's quite more than 4 months hahaha

Yeah if I were you I'd just ring them or send them an email, the lady on the phone is always super kind and polite. I sent them an email because I've already called them about 4 times before applying lol

    @italians

Any news? Today I was wondering on our DAAD website and I found that

Applications for ongoing calls for proposals will continue to be received and processed, Commission meetings will partly be held by Video conference or decisions will be taken on the basis of written documents.

So somebody had the interview, but the fact that we didn't doesn't mean we won't have scholarship (maybe).

I think my hope it's kinda hard to kill hahahha

The website was updated on April 20, so it's not an old news (I guess)

Where did you find this info?

I applied last march for the short term PhD grants and the office in Rome told me that results *should* be available in about 4 months. But I doubt it, since you guys have been waiting for a result for such a long time..

    Any news from Italy?

We were supposed to hear back from them about pre-selection by March, 23rd.

However, I called DAAD Rome last week, and have been told that interview invitations for shortlisted students will be sent out by the end of the week or, at the latest, by the upcoming week (which is now over). So, as of now, Friday afternoon, anyone got their invitations? I am worried because they could have informed just those shortlisted candidates..

Also, they told me that the final decision will be made in May or, at the latest, by June! And coming from the current situation, it will most probably be even later than June ahaha, which is crazy!

what DAAD program did you apply for?

Hello Valyti, I am from Italy, and I have applied for the short term. I am still waiting for the results, and I've applied in September (and now again in April). Still no results for the first one...

Anyway, I spoke to the Italian DAAD centre, and the wait for the final results of the short term application is generally at least four months.  Before that, you will receive a message if your application is complete and considered in the selection process.

    I hope that is helpful.

Wow, that is a long wait... I hope I get my results before November (which is when I am supposed to move to Germany). Anyway, in the meantime I guess I'll try with Erasmus+ as well, thank you!

  15. Hi!

I'm new to the forum and just applied for a DAAD short term research grant (I'm a PhD student from Italy). Do you guys have any idea how long it might take until I hear back from DAAD? I'm super anxious. I submitted my application on the last day (April 1st) and the wait is already killing me!
