  1. I was once given advice "to go with your gut. Don't waste time writing pro's and cons list. Things change, people change, you change. Trust your gut and go with it. chances are, you won't make a bad choice." Hope this helps
  2. Thank you! I can't say for sure, but if they all admit on a rolling basis, the first round of acceptances are likely released. We were told we would get 5 to 7 days to respond for Stanford CSB so I wouldn't be surprised if they have sent out the second round already. CSB only sends out acceptances based on the spots available. So if 2 out 4 people accept the offer in round one, they will only send out 2 offers in round two. This is how it was explained to me. To complicate things, if people were still doing interviews and asked for an extension on the deadline to respond, I feel like the admissions committee are nice people and would allow some sort of extension. In short, I would guess some acceptances have gone out, but not all the spots have been claimed if you have not received a rejection. They only reject the remaining people after the last spots are claimed. So there is definitely still hope!
  3. I have decided to accept my offer with the Mayo Clinic for their Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics program, and I am tremendously excited, humbled, and appreciative! I was waiting on the Stanford Biosciences (CSB). After reaching out, I was told they were interested in me but likely wouldn't have an update on my admission status until mid March. This tells me best case scenario I might get the last spot if multiple people turn it down. My deadline to respond to Mayo's offer was today, Feb 28th (two weeks after receiving the offer). I liked this program and did not want to risk losing this opportunity. Now I get to visit! So relieved to be done with this process. Best of luck to everyone and congrats to those with offers. I am a true believer in "everything happens for a reason".
  4. From my understanding, my program sends out invites for the exact number of spots pretty soon following the interviews. I'm guessing they are all out for CSB. They said they'd give students 5 to 7 days to accept or decline tho. Then they will roll out the next acceptances if people decline.Once all the spots are accepted I think they send the rest of us rejections. Or at least that's kind of what we were told
  5. I'm waiting on Chemical and Systems Biology. They interviewd 20 people for 4 spots. I'm going to reach out tomorrow to try and get an update on the selection process. I normally wouldn't do this but I have an acceptance to my second choice school and need to give them my formal response by the 28th/Monday. CSB encouraged us to reach out if we were in this sort of situation.
  6. Some of the schools I have interviewed with do the same thing because they admit on a rolling basis. Normally they are understanding if you have another interview coming up or if you want to requests to see the campus. Worst case scenario, you could request an extension and they say no. I like to think of it as a good problem to have lol
  7. I think/hope Stanford Biosciences (CSB) start rolling out acceptances this week... Please share if you hear anything!!
  8. Did anyone in this chat interview last week? I am hoping to hear back and just wondering when the first acceptances will roll out... I think soon
  9. Congrats on the Northwestern offer! That is a great school! I can speak on behalf of Mayo MPET program. I will be interviewing with them this week and I've been told this is the 2nd of two interview weekends. I don't believe they plan to send out more interview invites but you could probably reach out to double check. Hopefully this brings clarity.
  10. Do you know when their video is due? I thought all immersion weekend invites would be sent the 26th. Maybe that's the last day to receive a video invite? It would be interesting if they gave some people less time than others.
  11. It says applicants are given 6 to 10 days to do the video once invited so I'm remaining somewhat hopeful for another week... but it's not looking good for the rest of us...
  12. Just to reflect on an interview I had last week with the University of Michigan PCB, here are some things that came up in addition to showing your understanding of past research experience: Know your your goals (short term and long term) and how obtaining a PhD will help you achieve them What are you hoping that PhD program will provide to help you reach your goals How can you contribute to inclusion/equity/diversity at that program/university Why did you specifically select that program/university I'm sure these seem pretty ordinary or expected but hope this feedback brings some people reassurance in their interview prep. Take this with a grain of salt; different programs and institutions may do things differently. This interview felt more like the goal was to see if the program would meet my needs/interests, rather than the other way around. Hope this helps
  13. Congrats! I haven't heard anything from Knight Hennessy either. I do know they have sent out some video invites this week based on another forum. I'm still hopeful now that I've recieved a formal interview invite from the biosciences.
  14. Did any of the stanford applicants also apply to the knight hennessy scholars program?
  15. I received the official invite in my spam so double check there. It seems like they have sent out some rejections so maybe silence means they don't have an official decision on your application.
  16. I also got an interview invite to Stanford (CSB home program). There's a survey for us to fill out by Jan 14th so if anyone turns down the offer, they may send more out in the following week I'd guess?
  17. Congrats! If you don't mind me asking, what grad program did you apply too and when did you submit that application? Since these video invites are sent out on a rolling basis, I feel like this may play a factor in how early we receive an invite... I received an interview invite to my Stanford Grad program, Chemical and Systems Biology PhD (YAY!; app submitted Nov 28th). No update for KHS but I am still hopeful!
  18. I applied to the Arizona campus and received an interview invite for Mayo's MPET on December 22nd. The interview is Feb 9-11th. They didn't explicitly say this would be the only weekend but I also didn't have a choice between different days.
  19. Hi All! Since many of us may have interviews coming up, I thought it'd be helpful to share tips or experiences. Like what questions to be prepared for or anything else. I've heard that you're most likely to be asked about your research experience at broad. I'm sure its different from school to school and program to program, but any other thoughts?
  20. Recieved a Stanford Bioscience interview invite!!!! I applied to the chemical and systems biology program and recieved an email from the program director. Offical invites come in January. Side note, I applied for a fee waiver which was accpeted. I also applied to the knight hennessy scholars program, but haven't recieved any update on this. Not sure if these things played any factor.
  21. Received an interview invite from the Mayo Clinic. I applied to molecular pharmacology and experimental therapeutics (MPET) and I selected the Phoenix location. Their interview "weekend" is Feb 9-11. Onsite visits can be arranged at a later date if accepted. It's hard to tell by the email if there are separate weekends for separate programs or if it is one big event.
  22. I have received invites from the University of Michigan (PCB) and Van Andel Institute. I am waiting on Stanford, Mayo, and Vandy (QCB).
  23. https://biosciences.stanford.edu/prospective-students/how-to-apply/ FAQ section for prospective students:
  24. Stanford's website says they start inviting people on January 3rd. I am waiting on them too!?
  25. I have just received an interview invite to Van Andel Institute's Molecular and Cellular Biology PhD Program. I don't think I have seen anyone else say that they have also applied here, but I can share some details for silent or future applicants. It looks like they have 3 Fridays set aside for in-person interviews in January and February. They are inviting up to 8 applicants to each interview session to keep groups small/Covid restrictions. At the interviews, we meet the Dean, some faculty of interest, students, and director of student support... So thankful for good news. Best of luck everyone
