  1. I heard that Laurier has issued a first round offer for advanced standing. Is that true?
  2. I just felt that no matter what degree you are pursuing, you have to continue taking courses and acquiring certificates/licenses of practice if you want to focus on private clinical practice.
  3. Thanks and finger-crossed for you too!
  4. Just received an email from UBC Vancouver offering admission to advanced standing! Yet the deadline replying is short that I have to reply before 31 Mar.
  5. I am not sure if this piece of information is helpful but I just received an email from Laurier, saying that they need me to explain some special situation in my transcript yet they added that they are in their final review of the application process. I think we will hear responses from Laurier anytime soon.
  6. Yes, especially while King’s is one of the more expensive schools in terms of international tuition fees (similar to U of T). Sometimes I wondered why the fees can be so different among schools! Finger-crossed for you and I hope that your waiting would not be long and end with greatness!
  7. Thanks! I am planning on accepting the U of T offer but if other schools offer scholarships/funding, I might need a bit of consideration. However it looks like offering scholarships for an international students of MSW are not very common, esp from Kings?
  8. I also received an e-mail from Kings saying that I am waitlisted. But it is interesting as they said that my profile was highly competitive yet they cannot offer me places due to lack of places. Not sure if this is just a polite way to waitlist an applicant lol.
  9. I would love to join the group too!
  10. It is sad to have been rejected on your application, and I can imagine how frustrated it is while it happens for years, while you have a really strong portfolio. Yet as a person who once was a referee of a person apply for degree programs I do want to share that it is difficult for a referee to write the reference letter without detailed information about the application. As some of you also added that an excellent application needs a good story from you, this cannot be told without detailed discussion between the applicant and myself. Or at least, a personal statement and CV to let me know the applicant’s strategy I guess? We all know that it is critical to have referees who are willing and Eager to help. However, Sometimes the referees are eager to help but they are not sure if they are writing something helpful. For instance in your statement you focused on your care to the community, then it will be absurd if my referee report explains only on your clinical skills. Of course, writing the entire referee report by applicant is not something to be encouraged. Not sure if my experiences being a referee helps, but finger crossed for your application!
  11. Thanks! My last name starts with C. Maybe sharing a bit of my background might be helpful I guess? I am an international student from Hong Kong and worked as social workers for 10 years+ (had a really hard time calculating the hours as my country did not work this way, but it looks like I had 20000 hours+). I had experiences in school social work, support service with ethnic minorities and gambling addictions services. I was afraid of not getting an offer as I am just having a GPA of 83%-ish for my BSW (comparing to most of you getting at least A in your average) yet I have a masters degree in counselling as well.
  12. Thanks! I selected Health and Mental Health.
  13. I just received an email from U of T indicating an update to my application status, and received my offer to advanced standing!!! So thrilled!!! And finger-crossed for all of you waiting!
  14. Same here, and my last name starts with C. Not sure if it is different since I’m an international student applying full time admission for advanced standing.
  15. Congratulations! I am still waiting for the result of the UBC application and it is still "in progress". So the waiting game continues...
  16. I had an info seminar on U of T MSW half year ago, and the host said that there are on average 7 people competing each spot each year. I felt that the competition is always fierce for U of T anyway.
  17. I think UofT is always a popular choice? I hope that they will not issue offers according to the date of submitting applications as I submitted right before the deadline. The waiting game drives me crazy and I keep checking the application portals of all colleges I applied once in a few hours...
  18. Same here. I hope they will not issue offers according to the date of submitting application as I just submit few days before the deadline. Again, finger crossed for all of us!
  19. I thought that the offer for WLU sept 2022 intake is yet to be released? I just heard from this forum about the offers for May 2022 intake?
  20. U of T, UBC, Laurier and Kings. All advanced standing. Not having a strong GPA (83%) but back in my country the GPAs are less inflated and 85-ish% are considered top students (especially for SW major). I hope that my experiences are sufficient to offset the relatively low GPA.
  21. According to previous forums, offers start to release around mid-February to March I guess. Do anyone know about Laurier? The waiting game is killing me lol. Finger-crossed for all of us getting what we want!
  22. Does the release of offer having the same time frame between Canadian and international applicants? Knowing that the majority of offers will release mid-Feb, I am not sure if I have the sufficient time to apply for study permits and criminal non-conviction records. And the time waiting for results of application is really killing me lol. I am now checking the application portal and email once every hour.
  23. I think it is the problem in their system as the application in LORIS showed up again. Besides the Faculty has started reviewing the application already as I received E-mail to submit additional documents, hope something good happens.
  24. Yes it is also written in their Email that grad school applicants are not eligible to use JOIN. I think their email systems got some sort of the time lag as I received the JoinID first and a preliminary student no. (not equal to an admission offer) a day later, while their email suggested that I should have received the student no. before the JoinID. Anyway I just need the ID to register for residence as an international student and the system for the next fall admission opens on coming Jan so its totally fine for me.
  25. Hello there! I am a social worker from Hong Kong and currently applying for Advanced MSW in Canada. I think it is rare to have international students here asking about MSW? I have been working as social worker for more than 10 years (wasn't sure but 20000 hours at least?) in Clinical settings. My grades are really average comparing to the North America system (in my hometown the best student usually got 85% only!). I wasn't sure if I have the competitive edge yet I have some experiences in working as fieldwork supervisor for university. May I know if there are some social work schools in Ontario which are more and less competitive? Currently I am going to apply: UBC, UofT, McMaster and York (or Laurier? Heard that it is competitive but why?) Many Thanks and I hope I can understand more about the social work industry in Canada from you all!
