Management Doctoral Student Positions at the University of Memphis Our Ph.D. Program The Ph.D. program in Business Administration at the University of Memphis offers a wide variety of opportunities for students interested in furthering their graduate education. The University of Memphis has the academic resources to provide the doctoral candidate with a balanced education, including qualitative and quantitative skills required of the modern educational professional. Fogelman College has an experienced research and teaching faculty to head its doctoral program, including endowed research chairs in each academic department who provide leadership for a doctoral candidate's educational advancement. The department of management has a highly collaborative faculty and maintains a small doctoral program in order to ensure intensive interactions between our students and faculty. Our program prepares graduates to be marketable for tenure-track positions in reputable research institutions as well as for long-term career success. Recent students and alumni have published in outlets such as the Academy of Management Review, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Organization Science, and other outlets. The Ph.D. Program in Management develops skilled researchers who can be successful in research-oriented academic institutions. Graduates of our program work as professors in institutions such as Akron, Alabama, Alaska-Anchorage, Brock, Fresno State, Illinois State, Kansas State, Marshall, Mississippi State, New Mexico, North Texas, Ohio, OleMiss, Oregon State, Rutgers-Camden, UT-Arlington, and Virginia Commonwealth. Our doctoral students receive a competitive stipend and a full tuition waiver for up to four years (with the possibility of a 5th year of funding). We also provide generous resources for regular attendance at academic conferences. Students in our doctoral program typically do not teach until their third year in order to gain marketable teaching experience while focusing on coursework and research. More information about our program can be found athttps://www.memphis.edu/management/programs/phd.php Our Department Our faculty with interests in micro-oriented organizational phenomenon (Kristen Jones, Jessica Kirk, Kurt Kraiger, Alex Lindsey, and Caitlin Porter) conduct research in areas such as social networks, career management, work relationships, turnover, prejudice and discrimination in the workplace, subtle and overt discrimination, pregnancy discrimination, stigmas, sexism, diversity training, human resources, among other topics. Our faculty with interests in macro-oriented organizational phenomenon (Frances Fabian, Steve Lanivich, and James Vardaman) conduct research in areas such as strategic management, on-line communities, entrepreneurship, coping with entrepreneurial uncertainty, entrepreneurial resources and capital, family businesses, and other topics. Our faculty regularly publish in the top journals in the field, including Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal and others. In addition to traditional Ph.D. coursework, doctoral students in our program develop expertise in diverse methods and theory via specialized doctoral seminars and a guest speaker program. The department is home to the Center for Workplace Diversity and Inclusion, the preeminent center for the study of diversity and inclusion inorganizations.
