  1. Hello, I am really confused if I should mention this in my SOP or not and would love to get your opinions on this. I am an international student applying to a US grad school. I did Bachelors in Engineering from *kind of a scam* university. It was a British university which had an MOU with a local college and I completed my studied here. It is a long story how I got into this mess but by the end of the second year, I had realised that it wasn't a place to be. The MOU with the British university was just for the namesake. We hardly use to have classes. Before exams, the teachers (many of whom were still pursuing their master's degree) used to have 3-4 classes to give us an idea what to expect in the exam. And this is not even the worst thing! Other students bribed those teachers and unfortunately, I spoke up against this. They literally f*** in the exams. I wanted to exit the school the moment I realised what was going on but my dad had already paid the advanced fees for the 4 years and they had a no-refund policy. I had no other option but to somehow finish 4 years. I graduated with some 63% which translated to an Upper Second Honours by British standards but absolute garbage according to my own! The partnership ended the year I graduated. I finished the school and went to another country, started afresh, did a Bachelors and got a GPA of 4.5/5, then masters from the same university and currently I am at 4.83/5. Right now, I am applying to a grad school in the US and have no idea how to explain why I did my second bachelors. I am in this constant dilemma! Should I just manipulate and write a random reason or should I be honest and explain them what exactly was the reason? If yes, then how to explain them in the best possible way without sounding negative.
