The sad part is that UNC was my backup school! I guess I am F… it goes to show that being cocky is never a good thing! Although, honestly I was not being cocky. -

I just received an email from BU and they said that all interviews have been sent out. They mentioned that my application is still of interest to them but, it depends on space availability. So please those of you who have been accepted, if you are not intending on attending BU let them know ASAP so that they can offer me and people in my position an offer as well. Thank you! -

Thank you so much for cheering me up! You are very sweet! Don’t worry about not getting into some schools… it’s not the reputation of a school that makes a grad student strong, it’s the research and the quality at which you conduct it that gives you the reputation as a capable scientist that employers are after. ??? -

It’s understandable that you don’t have publications. Do you have any research experience such as REUs and what not? -

I have not received any updates on any of my applications. I wonder if they all are silent rejections or just not updated yet? Please help me by offering me kind words and support… or you can just tell me what do you really think. Thank you! -

Please don’t be discouraged. Big schools have their rigorous requirements. Just be hopeful and work hard… make your choice wisely! -

Hi, UCSD is awesome in terms of reputation and research… but, very low diversity, students are competitive and unfriendly, PIs are inaccessible and expect way to much from students… thus far, this is both grad and undergrad. undergrad: quarter system, very low teaching value and tutoring is impossible to find… rich international students succeed while socioeconomically disadvantaged Americans fall behind… research is number 1 and plentiful while teaching and studying is not… grad: TAing for courses over quarter system means you TA for 3 classes with new students meaning you grade approximately 120 students over 3 quarters whereas for semester system you have 80 students. The amount of publication is 6 first author papers minimum required for graduation. Should I say more? -

I don’t know! I mean it should be a lot since they have a lot of PIs and programs. -

I am looking forward to hearing from them then. I got into BU for undergrad but chose to go to UCSD (biggest mistake of my entire life). I hope I would get into BU for my PhD. See you there! -

I received the same email. Is this a good sign since they did not just reject us and took the time to email and notify about the delay? -
