  1. Yea the program is relatively less expensive than the surrounding ones, but for a west coaster its still a ton! 30k tuition is hefty.
  2. that's a really ambiguous email. I'm not sure what to make of it. I guess at least it isn't negative, so I would think positively about it!
  3. yea i felt the same way when i got my email too. I didnt even think about the chance of being accepted so early. they said the same stuff to me about funding in march. i applied to the MAIR.
  4. I was wondering if anyone has heard anything from UCSD's IR/PS program yet? edit: I submitted my application January 3rd.
  5. I did the same thing for this years round and it worked. Just put a little something in there.
  6. I received an acceptance email on Feb 4th to the Maxwell IR program. They emailed me about 1.5 weeks ago asking for an unofficial transcript since for some reason my official one I sent never arrived. I was told my 2 letters of rec that they had received so far would suffice and to just scan them a copy of my unoficial trany. They said they would send out financial information in March. I definitely wasn't expecting to hear from them a week or so after completing the application! Edit: Yea i have yet to hear from DU either.
  7. yea thats the email address i sent a couple to. damn that doesn't sounds good at all. looks like im just applying to 4 schools now ;( california is so much cheaper for me though!!!
  8. still nothing on UC Berkeley's website and nobody replies to my emails, anyone know if their MDP program is going to happen? Wouldn't apps need to be sent in soon!?
  9. Thanks for the replies guys. While I really like the overall idea of the MDP programs, I'm worried they are too generic, too broad. Is it possible to cover so many topics of health/sanitation, environment, social sciences, and management courses in a couple years and really be semi-proficient in them all? Hmm I wonder if those programs are easier or more difficult to get into since they are new, but only letting in 25 people or so next year. Just thinking out loud here!
  10. is there a place online where i can find those wordlists? i have the nova book and havent seen anything like that.
  11. I would be interested in more information that what the website shows as well. Anyone?
  12. hmm maybe nobody knows much about it! I just read UC Berkeley will be opening a program in 2011 too but there isnt any info on their website about it. Im waiting on a reply from the spearheading professor there.
  13. So I've been working on grad school apps for the past couple weeks, and I recently learned about U of Denver Korbel's Masters in Development Practice and wanted to know if anyone knew about this type of masters (brand new this year). After a bit more research I see schools like Columbia and Florida have it as well, but couldn't find any information on this forum about it. It seems obvious these programs are much more hands on, and are academically different than the other standard MPP, IR and ID programs, but I still can't get my head around them. Does anyone have any insightful information as to whether the 2 types of degrees would be perceived differently to public and NGO employers? Are they trying to market this type of program to a certain demographic? Thanks all
  14. I also just remembered that my major gpa (the classes pertaining to my major) was a 3.1 . Would it be worthwhile to talk about that in the essay? I basically sucked on all my GEs because I wasn't passionate about them!
  15. Thanks for the useful comments! I feel that if I'm going to apply to one, I should to a few. Do you know of any other programs that I might have a chance at that aren't "top tier"?
  16. Hey all, I've been seriously thinking about grad school now and am trying to figure out if I should go through with the process or wait another year or two to gain more experience before I apply. I really like the MPIA program at UCSD, coupled with free tuition as a California resident, its the cheapest place and one of the only 2 international relations/development programs in Cali. I am starting to study for the GREs, but was wondering if you all thought I even had a chance since my grades were bad in college. I graduated with a bachelors of science in Agribusiness and got a gpa of 2.7. I have been out of school for 3 years now, spending my first year working saving up money to travel. Then i traveled for a year around the world working at wineries. From there I found a job in Latin America working with Habitat for Humanity and have been doing that for the past year as a field coordinator. So now I plan to find another job with an NGO in Latin America while I apply/wait for grad school. I guess my main question is, with this little amount of experience, do I have a chance? I know I haven't taken the GREs, and given I dont get an amazing 1400+ score...? thanks all
