  1. Hello. I am planning to apply to HKS in a year or 2 and right now, I have an offer to work for 2 national government departments. Both have their merits, but thinking ahead, I would like to know which one in your opinion would look better in my application for an MPP in the future. One is an anti-corruption commission, which is essentially my forte, and the other is a public policy making entity of the Office of the President, but without a particular focus and covers a wider range of topics. Would having worked with the president of a nation carry more weight then a more concise and directed field of concentration, such as anti-corruption?
  2. Same here, ticked MPA but was really interested in MPP under the impression that I would be considered for both.
  3. Hi guys, Would anyone know if HKS's deadline for Recommendation letters is much later than the deadline for the applications on Dec. 3? My recommenders seem to be taking their time! Program Applied To (MPA, MPP, IR, etc.): MPP Schools Applied To: HKS, WWS Schools Admitted To: Schools Rejected From: Still Waiting: Undergraduate institution: Non-US Undergraduate GPA: We don't use GPA but very average Last 60 hours of Undergraduate GPA (if applicable): Undergraduate Major: Psychology GRE Quantitative Score: Don't know yet but it won't be good GRE Verbal Score: Don't know yet GRE AW Score: Years Out of Undergrad (if applicable): 11 Years of Work Experience: 5 Describe Relevant Work Experience: I was a anti-corruption prosecutor for 4 years. Prior to that I was in the private law field. Strength of SOP (be honest, describe the process, etc): My commitment to public service is quite clear, but I think my goals are not specific enough. Also I focused on my anti-corruption work which doesn't seem to fit any of the 2 school's specialties. Strength of LOR (be honest, describe the process, etc): As always, securing the LORs was the hardest part of my application. No matter how early I ask for them, they still wait for the last minute (hence my question above!). I would not say they are strong based on their profiles, but they are in a position to judge my capabilities well I think. Other:
  4. Would I be correct to say that the only difference between the two (other than the pre-requisites) is that MPP students have less independence in selecting their courses whereas MPAs have more leeway in designing their curriculum? From their names, Public Policy and Public Administration refer to different things but based on the Harvard website, I cant see much difference. I ask because I am applying for MPP but thinking if I should seek to be considered for MPA as well. Cheers everyone!
