  1. Yale has a wonderful religion department in the graduate school; a number of us take classes there. I'm not sure where you'd have heard otherwise?
  2. To everyone who got into YDS... hi! I was a participant on the forum when I got into YDS in 2009--I've been going half-time, and am still here (MARc in history), and my husband just got his acceptance to the same program! Feel free to drop a private message if you'd like any advice on the program, living in New Haven, etc. And congratulations to all of you! I've stalked the YDS online application results TWICE now, with two acceptances, and I think I was more thrilled with his than mine. It's really great here--let me know if you have any questions!

    New Haven, CT

We're native New Yorkers, the husband and I, and we're, moving up from a not-so-nice part of the Bronx and are having a bit of trouble seeing New Haven as terrifically unsafe. WeI spent some time walking around allllll over New Haven with the kidlets, and determined that there are some crap neighborhoods, but few seemed "OMG you're taking your life in your hands!" That said, I thought East Rock was lovely, although I think we're going to Div School family housing or one of the university properties on Prospect. I think that's technically past the borders of East Rock proper. Deciding factor? That hill. I want to be on TOP of that hill, rather than dealing with it every morning.
  4. I'll be doing the concentrated M.A.R at Yale Div in History of Christianity. It's one of those weird admits, in my opinion: I was rejected at most of the other places I applied. I'm a "non-traditional" student with lopsided (550/750/4.5) GREs, 3.8 GPA, good recs, really spotty transcript (lots of W's, I had a baby mid-B.A), strong writing sample, slightly nutty SOP (or so I've been informed). I was not expecting to get into Yale. My advisor basically told me I was a perfect fit for someplace like Drew or GTU, but stopped just short of saying "don't bother" about Yale. Half my documents never made it but my application was reviewed anyway, and lo and behold. I still sort of think they're going to change their minds.
  5. Oh my goodness. I did get into Yale. I think that answers that question.
  6. Nice email today that Claremont is giving me a 30% tuition remission. I wasn't really counting on anything from them, so that helps. I do so wish that schools I know I didn't get into could get around to telling me I didn't get into them, you know? At this point, I just want this all to be over. Yes, Chicago and Yale, don't look so innocent, I'm talking about you.
  7. I just got off the phone with Sandy Dowling at Chicago, who said that they were sending the mail out in batches and the last batch went out today. I can't help but think they'd have sent out acceptances first, though...
  8. Congratulations to all of you! I visited and love Drew. I'm definitely applying there for PhD. Enjoy!
  9. Thanks to both of you... and boredandtwitchy, I'll send you a PM!
  10. I got an email from the director of the MTS program at Notre Dame, who I'd been corresponding with, and I'm out. Really nice personal email, too. I have no idea why--I actually thought I stood a really good chance of getting in. I think it's Claremont for me, since I haven't heard anything from Chicago, I'm not really thinking I'll get into Yale, and Claremont was higher on my list than Emory. Despite being happy about Claremont, I'm pretty wrecked over the ND thing. First choice, and all that.
  11. I just got my first acceptance--to Claremont Graduate University MA program. Although it's not my first choice, it's really nice to know I can go SOMEWHERE--I was having the whole freak-out that nobody was even going to acknowledge my application. I'm just so happy. Waiting to hear from Notre Dame, but I'd enjoy Claremont a lot, I think.
  12. Well, it'll be quite the interesting week for a few of us, now won't it? I saw on the results page that Columbia results were in for the MA in religion. Does anyone know about any others? Chicago? Emory?
  13. Thank you, that's actually the program I'm most concerned about hearing from. Marvellous.
  14. Have MA and MTS programs started contacting people? I got an email newsletter from Emory today saying that they were inviting admitted MDiv and MTS students to a weekend thing in March and just went---"Oh my God, everyone's admitted yet who's going to be." I did not think I'd be losing it like this. And yet.
