  1. Excited about admissions, disappointed with some rejections, anxious about the ones I'm still waiting... I just feel I can't move on with my life until hearing from all of them ?
  2. I had. It was very nice, welcoming and informal. It was more of a "we really want/expect you to come", talking about the department, opportunities, and even about the city/life in general, and answering questions. We only briefly talked about research interests and research questions. But I think it really depends on what kind of things you are most concerned with. As for the part of POIs, they are usually as excited as you are about the admission, so they want to show off support and recruit you to the program--My thoughts.
  3. I really don't know. Last year I suffered the same way and only heard back from them in March (with a rejection) -- but most rejections were sent off during February, I guess. I got an offer this cycle (on Feb 3) and the only thing I know is that we will be having a kick-off meeting on the last week of February, so I guess that offers should be made by then -- Hope that helps. (Btw, I would love to know more about the department. If you have anything you'd think it would be important for me to know in advance, I'd appreciate it)
  4. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I think they really cannot ask for a decision this early. If you're funded, the visa process is not that hard... so it really doesn't make sense to ask a decision this early, so maybe they are just pressuring you? I think you could tell them you're still waiting to hear back from other programs and that you'd like more time to evaluate your offers...
  5. Yaaay! Huge congrats!
  6. I'm not sure though -- just my experience. But I agree with what you said here before: I really think that if you are a perfect fit they will admit and fight for you. But if the fit it is not that clear, they'll probably go with a waitlist or rejection?
  7. My experience on this cycle has been confirming that. I was waitlisted in lower-ranked programs where I was almost sure I would get in, and ended up getting into top-20 programs I wasn't expecting. During an interview in a lower-ranked program, they asked about how recruitment season was going and advised me to accept one of the offers I got from a top-20 program. I hadn't heard back from them yet, but I'm pretty sure they will not send me an offer knowing I already have options. But I don't feel "flattered" about it, and I actually find it odd, despite understanding their reasoning...
  8. Hey, thanks for letting us know. Can you comment where were your other acceptances? Also, how did you declined de offer? I'm planning to decline some of mine but I don't have a clue how to politely do that LOL Thanks
  9. I mean... 69k????? ?
  10. This is tough, I'm so sorry! But sometimes you have to keep in mind that famous quote: "It's not you, it's them" (and as cheesy as it sounds, it is commonly true tough) Hopefully you're gonna hear some good news soon!
  11. Thank you! I received both. First one from the Graduate Coordinator and second to check portal!
  12. Yes, I received an offer this morning! Beyond thrilled! Second time applying there
  13. Oh, right! Thanks. That one I received. But the lack of information about funding is getting me nervous, though...
  14. Same here, but I didn't receive an offer letter... You mean detailing the funding package? I'm worried now...
  15. Claiming one of the UCSD's rejections. Second year applying there, and this automated e-mail at 5am is a pain in our guts! It's awful. I know the program is VERY competitive, and they receive tons of applications, but I wish they could be less cold/whatever about rejections. Even the letter is the same. It makes you feel that nothing has changed in a year! That's to say, I have been doing great in all the other schools I have applied this year, which gave me some hope that maybe UCSD could work this time. Now I see that it seems they really don't want me ? However, many other great programs do! So to everyone disappointed with rejections: yes, there's a lot you can do to improve your file in a year! Make sure to do everything you can. But at the same time, consider other programs, try to participate in conferences, Open Houses. Sometimes we fall in love with a program we didn't even know/consider in the first place... So lots more to come! And for everyone disappointed today, or that woke up to this standard UCSD rejection: I feel you!!!
  16. Yeah, can't see the logic... Maybe because admissions and rejections are updated in the portal and waitlists are emailed? Just speculating though, really don't know how applicants are usually notified about admissions at UCSD
  17. Sorry, but what do you mean? If they use a waitlist, why would someone claim admission?
  18. What about Maryland? They usually call for interviews, right?
  19. Oh, yes. My bad.
  20. Good question. I have been asking myself the same, would love to hear from you all. Personally, I don't know what to do, because some programs will release decisions only late February/early March. Also most of the Open Houses/Visiting Days will be on March. So I haven't made up my mind yet
  21. So have any of you guys heard from UCSD? I saw someone claiming a rejection, but it's not even 7 in the morning in San Diego now... seems suspicious
  22. Hang in there!!! This is tough. I am an international student, so I don't know a lot about reputation/department culture at UWM, but I heard they would admit a very small cohort this year and that they were struggling with funding offers... So I guess the news are disappointing, but the reasons can be many. Also I think it's better to be rejected than admitted without funding, so...
  23. Same here, 1st time though. Kinda intrigued, because I got offers from OSU and Minnesota, and I feel UW-Madison is a similar program... but anyway, I already gave up trying to understand admissions decisions haha
  24. Just received it as well. I think it is a standard e-mail for everyone who applied ? But I understand the anxiety Lol
