  1. I have finally decided to go to CMU.
  2. Hey I'm not sure how long the waiting list is but I withdrew my application from the wait list today so it's at least one less now. Good luck.
  3. From what I know, it is a pretty big department with good resources and sound financial standing (both of which I think is important when you decide for schools.)
  4. So those of you who've had offers, have you guys decided which school you'll be attending? I have been accepted at CMU for phd in statistics, and UMASS for phd comp sci (machine learning/computational social science). I'm waitlisted at Columbia for phd in statistics. I visited CMU and really liked everything about that school. While CMU is my top priority I'm having hard time to decide if it is the one. The only perk of going to Columbia is the opportunity to work with Andrew Gelman. I have not visited the department and don't know much about it. UMASS is also good for computer science and I'm more familiar with the school and the department and it's pretty good. I know, I want to do more stats intensive program with opportunities for interdisciplinary research, and CMU is perfect for it. Should I wait till I hear from columbia and NCSU??
  5. rejected at Harvard and wait listed at Columbia. :S
  6. NO. But seems like they have already sent out acceptance. well, i guess that means a rejection for me.
  7. I got my rejection letter from Duke yesterday..
  8. Hi, I am a graduating senior from a top 25 liberal arts college majoring in Math and economics. My undergrad gpa is 3.8. No, I dont have a masters. I applied to Phd program in Statistics.. I have done reu in applied statistics, last semester i was involved in a research with a professor analyzing data from ecology..currently i'm doing an independent study to develop bayesian time series model to analyze time series data....I have taken few higher level stats courses. and I think my reco were pretty strong... While not mandatory, it is very helpful to have research experience..it gives you an edge and the schools will know that you are well prepared for grad school. good luck.
  9. I got an email from CMU. I am in,. Good luck guys. hopefully you'll hear from your schools soon.
  10. This makes the whole waiting process even more scary. I can't wait anymore. Stress is increasing exponentially everyday. Oh god!!
  11. I see that most of the natural science programs have already started sending out decisions and calling people for interviews. When do the stats programs start sending out decisions?
  12. I am applying to Phd programs in statistics. I have already written about my research interests and other credentials in SOP. But I am having a hard time writing an introductory paragraph. Is it a good idea to start the essay with my name, major and school's name? Or should I talk about my interests right away? Also how detailed should I be while explaining my research experiences.
  13. Yeah, seems like I took powerprep II. Thanks for letting me know.
  14. yeah I took it once. So does the 430-530 mean my score's going to be anything in between the two numbers or the average of 430 and 530? I guess I didn't understand why instead of giving a number it's giving me this range of 430-530....
  15. I took my first powerprep practice test today and my score range for verbal part was 430-530 and that for quantitative part was 740-800. How should I interpret this range?
