University of Alberta, MPH applicants Fall 2022.

Certainly! I have a BSc in Kinesiology and an BSc in Nursing as well as a Disability Management certification. GPA in my accelerated nursing program which was 19 months long was a 3.9/4.0 but I feel like they may have had to take one of the summer courses I did prior to nursing school into consideration so it would be more like somewhere between 3.8-3.9 for the final two years. I have worked as a Public Health Nurse for 2 years, and I have previous experience in a sports injury environment. In my personal statement I spoke about how I started the Kinesiology society at my university, worked with an LGBTQ+ alliance team on my campus as well as with mental health initiatives such as Bell Lets Talk, and currently run the Wellness Committee for my team within Public Health. I do not have any research experience but a lot of my experience is within the field such as doing epi reports for our medical officer of health and creating documents and interventions for our community partners, so I really focused on that and spoke to what my long-term goal would be if admitted to the program which is focusing on health literacy. I had 3 references, all from managers who I work with in Public Health. Because my nursing school profs are all nurses they were still dealing with the pandemic and were not actually teaching so it was hard for me to obtain a recent reference in that area but my managers have seen a lot of what I have accomplished in the public health sector so they were able to speak to my dedication and learning abilities in that area. Good luck everyone! Good news will be coming your way - I can feel it! -

Thanks! Yes, BScN and BScKin, I feel like you could never be sure, I have heard of people rejected with 4.0 and 5 years in the field, it is always a guessing game! Hoping for the best for us all -

I have a feeling it will be tomorrow or Thursday as well! Fingers crossed. I know they have not started sending them out yet but I cannot help but to be anxious that it will be bad news. -

Wondering for those who are still under review/in pre-screening, when you click to view your application details if a GSMS ID number shows? I had one pop up the other day and I don't recall if it was there last week. Unsure if it is just wishful thinking on my end or if it is actually a change. -

Oh, well I am sorry to hear about the rejection. May I ask if you are domestic or international? You are the first person on here to have received a response from UofA to my knowledge. -

Did you originally email them asking about your status? When did they update your portal? I emailed them about an orientation question and when they responded they gave me the email for the people who deal with orientation and said that decisions won’t come until early April. I wonder if this means they will start rolling out earlier… -

Had a mini heart-attack because I got an email about an update on my admission status but it was just the admissions department following up on a question I had about orientation. I didnt ask about a timeline but they mentioned to me in the email that all applications will be under review until the end of March and final admissions decisions will be communicated in early April - so I guess this means I can stop compulsively checking until then ? Looks like we need to hang in there for two more weeks. -

I applied to UofA and Lakehead. Lakeheads application was supposed to open already in October and it didn’t open until November. Then the deadline was set for January 31st and the last week the extended it to middle of February. I strongly believe enrolment was low most places hence the push back for a few weeks which is frustrating when you have had your applications submitted since November ? -

I think we still will start seeing this week considering so many other schools have started to send them out. I don't think they can keep pushing back dates just because they extended the deadlines, just because they need to give students enough time to make arrangements, especially if they need to move to attend school or arrange things with work. At least that is my point of view, but WHO EVEN KNOWS ANYMORE ? -
