  1. Thanks! I decided to take the fellowship. I'm very excited!
  2. I need some advice, please! These are my top offers: -NYU's Business and Economics Reporting program with $26,000 scholarship (leaving tuition at $32,000) -Columbia's magazine program, no financial aid offer yet -American, with a fellowship to Center for Public Integrity, full ride, $24,000 stipend So, is the prestige/job opportunities regarding the fellowship comparable to the prestige/job opportunities coming from NYU or Columbia? Any opinions and advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!
  3. What are some other good sources of outside funding? I'm applying for journalism master's programs and need to find some outside sources of funding. Thanks!
  4. Does anyone know of any good sources for outside scholarships? It looks like SPJ isn't offering any, so right now all I've got are a few general scholarships from fastweb.com. Any ideas? Thanks!
  5. You may have already taken the test at this point, but in case you haven't... You have 45 minutes to answer maybe six free response questions. It's not a test on current events or journalism conventions, but it instead asks about the type of stories you like to do best, what-if ethics, stuff like that. It seemed to me like a no-right-answer test - they are more interested in how you write on the spot and your thoughts on the field.
  6. I can't decide to apply for an MA (thesis) or MJ (non-thesis) for University of Maryland's j-school. I'm unclear on what the differences between the two are, aside from the thesis. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks!
  7. I'm applying to journalism schools, which generally ask for three letters of recommendation. I've had two strong internships with editors who would gladly write LOR for me, plus the editor for whom I'm currently freelancing. I also have two professors (my undergrad thesis advisor and another professor I love, who I hear writes excellent LOR) that I know would write good LOR. Do I go with two editors and a professor? Or two professors and an editor? And which ones? Thanks!
  8. I need help finding some mid-range and safety (graduate) j-schools to apply to. My dream schools are Columbia and NYU, but since those are obviously quite competitive, I need some other options. I'd like to attend school in/near a major city such as New York, Chicago, or DC (but I'm not necessarily set on the East Coast). What do you recommend?
