  1. Yes I already live quite close to UBC and want to live in Vancouver for the foreseeable future so it makes the most sense for me to stay here. Also I feel like doing a practicum in the city I want to work in will be the best, it still hurts to turn down the scholarship from Carleton but I would have to move across the country and leave all my family, friends and connections behind.
  2. Update for my Advanced MSW applications (March 8th) - Carleton - Accepted March 1st with $12,000 scholarship offered - UBC - Accepted March 2nd but with no scholarship money - Officially Accepted this offer - Waterloo - Waitlisted March 4th - Western - Accepted March 8th - assuming no scholarship money For any future students looking at this thread or anyone waitlisted I will go over my application. I am genuinely shocked that I was accepted anywhere! - Graduated with my BSW from UFV in 2020 - I believe with around a 3.9 GPA, also completed a social services diploma in 2018. - Had around 6000 paid hours in social work type jobs - I have mainly worked with women experiencing violence and in harm reduction. I had about 5 paid positions. - In my personal statements I was very forward about my life experiences. Especially with Carleton which was an essay style I talked about my own substance use and sexual experiences. I was torn about being this open but I think not holding back really helped. My advice would be to write about what you know and not what you think they are looking for. The schools want to know who you are beyond your GPA and work experience. Once again good luck to everyone and congrats to everyone for taking the courage, time and energy in applying and putting ourselves out there!
  3. Decided to go ahead and officially accepts UBC's offer, for those on the waitlist for Carleton there will now be another spot available
  4. Update for my Advanced MSW applications (March 4th) - Carleton - accepted with $12,000 scholarship offered - UBC - accepted but with no scholarship money, I did email them and they said that since I had one of the higher GPA's so I may be able to apply and get between $1000 - $3000. Also the program as a domestic student is only $6000 total for the year which seems to be one of the more affordable ones? - Waterloo - just checked and got waitlisted. - Also applied to Western but haven't heard back, if I do get accepted will turn down as this was my last choice and doesn't seem to be funding help/ I think I am going to go with UBC as I already live in Vancouver and want to continue living here so I think it makes more sense but also hard to turn down the scholarship money so I am still torn. Good luck everyone!
  5. After thinking I didn't get in Carleton accepted me today into the 1 year advance with a 12,000 scholarship! I am so happy but also I live in Vancouver and really want to stay here and go to UBC. Does anyone know if Waterloo(online) or UBC offers scholarship money normally as well?
  6. For those who got into Carleton's 1 year MSW I would love to hear your background, hours and GPA.
  7. Now on my third business day of my status for Carleton being "review by graduate faculty...". The wait is killing me and looking at previous years it seems that once it changed to this they found out within 24 hours. I have decided I am no longer going to keep checking as I can't concentrate on my work ?
  8. Hello everybody, I have been following this thread for a while and congrats to everyone who has gotten in. I am wondering if anyone else has applied to Carleton's 1 year advanced program and has still not heard back? My status changed to "Review in progress by Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs" on Thursday but still haven't heard anything since then. It seems like a lot of people have been posting there results last week but mine wont change.
