  1. Hi everybody, I need to make a choice among doing IR (excluding IPE) in Virginia or Georgetown or doing CP (esp. public opinion) in Iowa or George Washington. All are seemingly decent PhD programs and have specific faculty members I may work with. They have similar rankings in USNews. Any advises on which program could be a better choice?
  2. Thanks for you sharing your experience with me! Yet, I have a problem now: why I usually saw people (such as the replies above including yours) making their master there rather than phd? Does it mean the Phd in PS is not so usual in Carleton?
  3. I got three admissions to phd programs in political science so far, which from Carleton, Catholic University of America, and South Carolina. I know none of them is first-standard, while is Carleton a little better? I heard it can be regarded as a good university (in Canada at least), especially in International Relations. Is anyone who is or was in any of the three? Could you give me some more details? How are the programs going? Thank you~
  4. Well, adaptations, here is another problem you might give me some advices, that is, what kind of SOP is strong for us PS Phd candidate (Ok, I know it is per se a stupid question though every freshener would like to ask). I mean, how I could show a clear, systematical, professional research plan now? Is it a work that perhaps haven't done until the second year of the phd program?
  5. Wow, fox, you make me not alone. I definitely agree with you that AW is totally stupid and misleading~
  6. Thanks very much, Newms, and hope the committee of PS department will do as you said~~
  7. Hi everyone!I really need some advices. I am applying a Phd in IR or CP. The problem is that my GRE writing score is too low (3.5, 26%), though an over 1400 of the other sections. So I am thinking to give some reasons for it in my SOP. However, I am not sure whether it will be helpful: on the one hand, my advisor told me that most programs of states' universities in political science usually require an above 50% writing score. That means, my application is very possible to be directly washed out even before any one have read my SOP and reasons in it. If so, it will make little sense whatever I explain. On the other hand, if my SOP could be read by some one, that may means they don't pay too much attention on GRE initially. Yet my explanation in SOP then may take their attention back to this disadvantage of me. Nevertheless, in some cases found from gradcafe, they did this. So, I am wonder whether it will be helpful or more probably counterproductive if I do some explanation. Ask for your advices! Thanks very much!
  8. Thank you for your reply. Wish everything could go well. I suddenly find being pressed for time. My applications has to be sent before Dec, while now has been Sep.
  9. I intend to apply a PhD program of political science. The scores of my GRE involve a 680 of verbal, a 800 of quantitative, BUT a 3.5 (26%Below) of analytical writing. With such scores, do I have possibility to be enrolled by universities, such as Berkeley, Georgetown U, U of Michigan, or U of Pennsylvania? I feel my writing score is too low, while I am not sure whether it will be a big deal affecting my application...Please give me some advices. Thank you! I am really worried about that in these days~
