Could anyone speak to the Chicago MAPH? What's the deal? Do students go onto top PhD programs? How "art history" can you make the MAPH? Impressions, please! Thanks.

My work experience (in the money making business-oriented art world) was a big topic of my interview and also was discussed after I was admitted into a competitive program with an attractive funding package. I, at least, could not have applied straight out of my BA. I'm in a totally different place after two years of working. Much more positive and clear.

I'm not, but I do know several people studying there in modern/contemporary. I was accepted to the MA but am enrolling in a US PhD program instead. I'm also not English nor have worked in the arts in the UK. However, this is my American perspective. Oxford may get more heads turned because of the name, but those in the know know Courtauld...

when is too late for a wait list? i know i received word about 3 weeks ago that i was on one. haven't heard a peep since. would it be appropriate on like april 10th, if i still haven't heard anything, to write and see... like, what are the chances? by they i would expect most people who want to go to that school to say yes. gahhh!!!

What's your specialization? I'm modern/contemporary with a non-"Western" region specific focus, and I would choose the Courtauld. I have the impression that it is much more progressive (read: liberal) and plugged into the art world. Good luck & congrats!

As someone who is also waitlist at a PhD program, I am going to decline certain MA acceptances this week, hoping it brings me good karma!!!

So, just got my MAPH email from Chicago with partial funding. Wahhhh!!!!! I'm bummed about it, because I "felt" it was a perfect fit. Out of curiosity, do a lot of MAPH Art History students filter into the PhD at Chicago or other schools???

Seriously. I hear you... I knew it was bad when my family members (mother, fiancé) started checking grad cafe and the results page because i was on it so much and, mostly, freaking out....

My POI told me that accepted students with MAs already are the first to be considered for funding, since it requires you to teach (usually an undergrad art history class at any of the CUNY colleges throughout NYC) from the very first semester. I do not know how much it is exactly.

So, since some schools have spring break this week, will this be a quiet week? I don't know if I can take 7 more days of silence... Just tell me I've been rejected, already!!!!

U of C offers consolation MAs for art history? I am really anxious about it. I applied to the PhD. Haven't heard a peep either way... No rejection via post. Does the school have a wait list?

Right??? I agree!!! I started to feel it last night. Maybe it's the pre-spring break silence? I'm not expecting to hear back from any of my stragglers next week... Congrats to all the admits from last week. Any Yale admits lurking? I saw not one acceptance on the results page. Don't be afraid; you won't cause a rebellion!!!

Did someone just post on the results page that there were 250 applicants for Renaissance/Baroque?! That sounds like a lot. I mean, if there were 250 for that specialization... how many were there total? Someone else here quoted a total amount for UPenn at 190. That seems reasonable... Wow!

Thanks, SaschaC! I'm definitely on the PhD track but not writing off the Courtauld just yet... Just double checking, since I didn't think you could apply to the PhD there straight from your BA.
