To those who applied to the PhD at The Courtauld, do you have MAs??? To those asking about CUNY admits, I was admitted. You login (same site as application, same login/pw as application) and if you got int there should be a green graphic check with a short text is small font at the top of the homepage. Underneath it are your stats (when you submitted, who wrote your recs, etc.) and at the veeerrrrrry bottom are two buttons, basically ACCEPT and DECLINE. Don't press those!!! I almost pressed ACCEPT because I though that was how you get more details. Whew! All available details should be at the very top. Basically, telling you that a letter will come to you in the mail... For me CUNY, will have to weigh in with a good funding package, which I've hear in the past has notoriously not been the case... Any Rutgers admits hear about funding/fellowships yet? The MA note on the admissions page is a formality. Technically no one gets accepted into the PhD program (at least not without a MA). You "reapply" internally for the PhD after year 2. My POI who confirmed this said it's explained somewhere on the website. Cheers!

I, too, am waiting on a considerable amount of schools (more than 5) who have given no word as to admission/rejection/waitlist. In the meantime, I am looking at the schools (MA v PhD, state school v. private) I did get into and weighing my options, preparing a list of pros and cons so I can compare and contrast. I am approaching it as if some schools will come in at the very last minute, say very end of March or even the first few days of April. I want to be prepared to make an informed but timely decision then. Keep the faith! Don't lose hope!

Really good first point! I never thought of it from that POV... I just applied for Courtauld funding, so I hope hey'll tell me within the next few weeks. They can't be oblivious of US acceptance/rejection dates.

There's been some talk here about The Courtauld, for those accepting, did you just apply to MA programs? If you applied to PhD and MA programs, why then The Courtauld? I've been accepted to one PhD program and The Courtauld. While the PhD has super great funding and a great faculty, there isn't a perfect fit POI. At The Courtauld, I was accepted into a course that directly fits my research interests, but I've heard and seen with my very own eyes that the professor is overtaxed and doesn't always have time to be the best mentor. No word on funding for The Courtauld either, as I just submitted those apps. Oh, and of course, there is the fact that if I do the MA, I'd most likely reapply for the PhD in a year's time; therefore, subjecting myself to this horrid process all over again. So, for the sake of asking random strangers, what would you do? Obviously there are more details to this situation, but facing just with the basic facts... (Oh, and I would have to move very far to attend both schools, so that's not an issue.) Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!!

Somewhat off topic question, but does anyone know when FAFSA for 2011-2012 is due??? Thanks!!! And congrats to recent admits!

Ladies and Gents, you do not "just suck"!!! I also got my rejection from Princeton. Hello, automated system!!! If I had to assess my application, it was also about the fit. I also did not meet anyone, because the one person who I could work with was on leave this spring. May I also say, how WEIRD the Princeton app was. Like, once I submitted it, I was convinced it didn't send. There was no option to look things over or DL and PDF of it like most of the other applications. Well, at least we have the closure we all were asking for... Don't lose hope!

Yes, modern. You? Maybe we can swap the task of writing the letters. It was your idea, yeah? Anything to get my mind off it!!!

My heart goes out to the person who emailed their Harvard POI. Rough! I like the idea about writing oneself a rejection letter... Oh, the cynicism of Grad Cafe....

I see there are a couple rejections from Northwestern on the Results page. How were you notified? I've received no correspondence from NU and just went to the online application and there was no decision to view. What does this mean? Is there a waiting list? I know that their accepted students weekend is coming up... Do I still have hope?! I haven't received any rejections (though two acceptances), but the waiting is just killing me. Literal limbo. I can't help but stay positive, thinking that not having a definite rejection means there might be a waiting list option.... Am I being delusional?
-
If not hearing from a school when others have heard means you weren't accepted, then how do wait lists come about? Not all schools do them, I assume. Is there a way to find out if a school does? Is there a way to find out your place on that waitlist? Basically, is there any hope if you haven't heard from your dream school? I don't know what the protocol is.

Lala, you are Chinese contemporary/diaspora? I hear you... I have a region specific field, too. I emailed my POI at Columbia yesterday. He said that they were very strict about taking students this year, ensuring that the ones they took had a direct relation to a current professor's field. While I can see the many ways your subfield can be viewed from differed POVs and paradigms, it looks like they don't. I feel your pain! I hope they schools that do have profs in your subfield accept you! Did you apply to work with Wu Hung at UChicago?

Did you get an open house invite email, Manet, or just visiting 'cause you are in the area? I, too, will be in New York next week and wanted to see the new show at the Wallach. You think it's too late to pop by the dept? Thanks in advance for the advice!
-
May I ask which schools you've heard from??? Congrats!!!
-
nope, nor Northwestern. I check their app page every day!
-
oh, sorry to hear that, assuming it was your field... are people in touch with their PIOs? I was writing back in forth with mine and met a few at a couple schools, but they convos sort of died. Did you get back in touch or were always in touch?
-
How do you know?!?!?!?!??!?! It's not my field... but... has Columbia said anything re: anyone?
-
how does one find out about upenn? checking your original app online like northwestern? email? phone? gahh!!
-
Love it! He said... she said... This forum is getting better than Gossip Girl...
-
Ladies and gents, hard feelings aside & i totally agree with the last post, may this be a lesson to all of us... Grad school is vicious!!! Toughen you're skin or you won't make it.
-
Not 100% sure, but I don't think the IFA does...
-
since you obviously went through it yourself, how does u of c get back to people? phone/email/post? thank you!!!
-
Do you know if they get back to people via email... letter... phone? I'm leaving for Europe on Friday and have an international phone, but I am afraid that if I am so blessed and graced to even receive a call in the first place it will be at some ungodly hour or when my phone is silenced. a call like that you probably can't call back, eh? Gahhh!!! This is torture!!!
-
ahhhhh envy!!!!! though 11 is a large number... thanks for the insider tip!!!
-
How are you so sure??? Are you currently a student there???
