I'm starting chemistry in college and I had a few questions about balances: 1.) How do analytical/electric/precision balances work? Would this type of balance give accurate mass calculations on other places with different gravities, such as the moon? I read that it doesn't directly measure mass, but it actually measures the weight. If that is the case, how does it recalculate the objects mass? I imagine the force of gravity on other places would influence the balance. Would you fix this by zeroing it? Since gravity isn't the same everywhere on earth, is that why the zero function exists? 2.) Would traditional balances accurately calculate mass on other planets? I imagine the force of gravity wouldn't influence it, so I think it would. Thank you in advance for any responses. Please explain with simplicity. Science confuses me. <3
