  1. I am a 3rd year undergrad student based in Canada, and I want to eventually go into research and become a prof. I am very interested in sociology (that’s my major), and I want to learn more about the discipline as a whole. That being said, my research interests really lie within social stratification and inequality, education, and healthcare. I also am interested in the concept of sociological theory, such as social thought. For context, I definitely would like to do something in the future regarding education and social classes. Such as making education accessible for those who do not have the means to access it readily. I recently did a paper on MMI and EMI (maximally and essentially maintained inequality), which was albeit, semi-difficult to understand (my soc prof/mentor recommended this to me for a topic in one of the classes for our final paper. took me weeks to research about it and understand. my prof said it is apparently a “grad school” topic so it’s understandable if I don’t get the theory quite down pat. I was shocked though when I got my grade back. I didn’t think I was gonna do as well as I did tbh. one of my best moments in uni this far, and the concept of MMI/EMI also peaks my interest. If any grad students would like to chime in and recommend some books or journals that are kinda entry level? for soc specialization, that would be awesome too! I wanna learn more kinda advanced stuff bc I don’t feel challenged enough w my current and past soc classes I have taken.. I am partial to the theoretical work of Durkheim, Bourdieu, and Lareau. However, I do want to branch out further and perhaps learn about some new theorists. I also do not mind if someone wants to recommend research papers too! As long as they are accessible and I don’t have to pay for a subscription to read it, anything goes! Any type of recommendation works!
