  1. no problem! so I applied to Alberta, McGill, UofT, Western, McMaster, Ottawa and Laurentian. I got waitlisted (then accepted) at Alberta, waitlisted (then accepted and committed) at Ottawa and directly into Laurentian. I ended up choosing Ottawa because of its location (I wanted to stay in Ontario, and I am bilingual so the French was not an issue for me) and the resources available though the university. My major is Linguistics. I had a 3.6 sGPA, ~600 hours of volunteering, an SLPA job, a RA position and a research internship. My cGPA was a 7.35/9 so around a 3.45? I think experience is really gonna count this round of applications. I'm not sure if theyre making shadowing hours mandatory this round, but I really think its important. It can make you stand out from the other applicants. I also think research is a good addition to applications. If you are sure you want to pursue SLP, I think it is totally worth it. It is not impossible to get into - it just takes time and hard work. It wont come easy, I know many people who had to apply 2 or 3 times. I think I got in with such a low sGPA because of my experiences. I started thinking about grad school and planning my route in first year. It takes a while to ensure you have everything sorted. Also, I know it is hard but do not compare yourself to your peers. I was terrified and convinced I wasnt getting in, but I did! If your sGPA is lower I would strongly suggest looking into CDA programs. Also, look into applying to the States and Australia! Many new SLPs come back to Canada from abroad. If anyone has specific questions, shoot me a PM !
  2. hey guys! im entering into my first year at uOttawa SLP this September. Last round was my first time applying. I know how anxious and scary this process is. If anyone has any questions about applications, SOI, references etc. please feel free to message me and I will be more than happy to help !
  3. Hey guys, is anyone going to UOttawa still lurking? If yes, message me please! Id love to connect
  4. Hey! I only applied this round and got in, but I have talked to many, MANY people about what to do if I did not get in. What I would do if I was in your position is take the phonetics course. Your sGPA is quite high already. If you do well in phonetics it should get you to a 3.8; the only school this would be "low" for is Mac, but I think it would still give you a shot. I would also recommend gaining volunteer experience. This would give you more things to talk about in your SOI and would make your application as a whole look better as it would show you are serious about the field and you know what you're getting into. If you do decide to take more courses, I would do them in the summer (summer courses tend to be easier imo haha), and take easy courses you know you will do well in. Good luck!
  5. Has anyone that got excepted to Ottawa declining and going somewhere else? Also, has anyone not heard from McGill yet or is it just me 😪
  6. Hey everyone! Has anyone gotten into UOttawa and is accepting another offer?
  7. I think tonight at midnight... it seems like in previous years they released offers right away at 12am. I'm absolutely shaking either way though lol
  8. I emailed them today and they told me there were looking to send out the rest of the responses by next week.
  9. Has anyone heard about McGill waitlist or rejections?
  10. Waitlisted at UofA. Does anyone know if they release if youre in the top or bottom half of the waitlist?
  11. has anyone gotten any updates from uofa this morning?
  12. Congratulations! Thats so exciting!!! Did they call you? Or notify you by email?
  13. I also applied. I emailed them about the prereqs - it was a long process for me lol, lots of emails back and forth until I found a course that worked for stats! Considering that they did not have a SOI section, I think they value GPA heavily. I'm not sure how much experience is weighed though. Did anyone apply to Laurentian ?
  14. Congrats on those who have heard back from McGill! I was just wondering, for those who got accepted, did you apply to a bilingual spot?
