Brown & Duke ✨🍀
OK well we are doing our Brown visit this weekend and virtual visits are on Monday. Hopefully folks that lose interest will be kind enough to move on sooner than later.

Also on the waitlist boat…I am just praying that people who got into Brown & Duke get into their top choice programs 💗 and make space for some of us waitlisters 🍀
Where are you waitlisted?

Updates:
USC acceptance email came through yesterday.
It has been a busy week with illness in the household as well. I can offer tips from the perspective of this not being my first time applying AND having worked and built a family for some time.
also there is a thread on here that has words of wisdom and I highly recommend reviewing it.
lastly, if you have the opportunity to get involved with any academic pipeline programs that mentor you through the process and connect you with institutions, I highly recommend it.

I got an invite to interview without contacting them in my email a day or two ago, fwiw.
I remember one of three POI telling me last fall they are moving to a structure where you are advised by the whole department, so it would definitely make since in this case. So someone who has a project that could be supported across the department could potentially get a call without making a contact.

@PhilAnthroyeh 1 out of 3 POI I contacted at UCI actually emailed me back. But we shall see! It ain’t over till it’s over, right!?
-
@chompskythe contact would be Lutkehaus!

Got my USC interview request yesterday after bugging them forever for their timeline . But will say they have been among the few very transparent throughout the process .
assuming rejections from Stanford, Berkeley and Uc Irvine and Penn. Did not get interviews

UCLA news: randomly checked the portal and saw a decision letter. Rejection. Didn’t sting too bad. Not my top 3.
Still holding out for USC just for torture, but honestly I feel confidently that Brown is the best match for me considering my subfield/areas of interest/faculty and overall how the department operates.

Thanks! I would probably want to talk to you more later. I am waiting for UC Daivs's formal offer to see how much they will give to me, and waiting UCI and USC. All CA universities with poor pay I guess. I am an international student who've never been to CA...So, life conditions and stipend makes very confused.
I think the cost of living is cheaper near Davis but I am not sure. Best of luck yes send me a message if you have questions!

I've heard Brown give a very satisfying stipend right? USC and UCI all sounds will not provide enough stipend for living in CA...
Yeh so I’m from LA. If anyone gets an offer letter and wants to know how to negotiate it I can be of assistance. 30k in LA at USC is something to think about really.
i have a spouse who can travel with work and do things remotely so I’m not considering these things as much. Although I do feel that my expertise, project and potential have a particular value.
Brown has a pretty comfortable stipend and many opportunities to get internal funds.
i can’t even remember what UC I said.

Looks like Irvine's interview invites came through as letters from the DGS. Those are usually uploaded on to the portal in batches. So there's still a chance that you might get an invite.
I was thinking the same thing as @PhilAnthro but I’ll remain hopeful. I contacted three POI at Irvine and only one gave me the time of day. I contacted her again and she didn’t reply. ?

It's nice to see other people that have gone through multiple cycles! It bolsters my spirits a little. This is my second round, and I have a feeling that I'll have to go through a third.
I saw someone post acceptance to Toronto, and I haven't had any updates, so I probably didn't get in T_T
Still holding out a little hope though. It was a Canadian applicant who posted, and I'm international, so maybe there's a difference in when results go out. The game isn't over yet until the actual rejection email comes through!
It really is not over till it’s over. Part of the reason I tried again, twice was because folks spoke to me about their rejection cycles. We have to normalize how strange and unpredictable it all is.

Also @bealice77i was doing the same applying to one, two, three programs, but this year I was like let’s do this!

I'm curious what did Brown say over the phone! Did they schedule campus visits for March, which means that all acceptances have already gone out?
This is the second round for me as well... last year wasn't good either, but I only applied to two last year. This time I went all out with twelve programs. So far, rejected by 3, waiting on the rest. And this process has been mentally draining, but I'm trying to stay hopeful.
Phone call was congratulatory. Yes March is it. My decision letter loaded in the system this morning.
i think this is my third round. Fourth if I count when I tried to stay on in my masters to continue working with my pi. I first was applying to Anthro of Ed friendly programs then switched back over to social sciences and this year ten Anthro program applications. I think I’ve got three rejections so far too.
i also took a long break to work. So there was time for me to get the itch to apply again after the burn.

wow congratulations!! I still have not heard back anything... I guess it's over for me
Yes unfortunately it looks like things are moving fast since last night with campus visits being scheduled in March. I know it burns. TRUST ME! This is not my first round. What are your other options.
i have heard nothing from Stanford. Nor Berkeley nor UC Irvine. I’m pretty sold on Brown as my work is really a great fit. But I’m curious if ill get a hit at USC.

Randomly checked the Penn portal today and there was a rejection letter with no letterhead 🤡 dated 3/14/23.
