  1. I know someone received the admission letter, and someone in the JHU socio department said the decision was made yesterday or today, so soon we will know...
  2. Wow I hope your interview goes well! Would you mind sharing something about it?
  3. Anyone know whether Brown, Duke, UM, and Yale have sent out interviews? I see posts but am not sure they are true.
  4. I am an international student and last year all programs rejected me. At that time I was a master's student in the US and that was my second cycle. I talked with my mentor and center director as I was so anxious. They gave me more resources than I had ever thought. If your nightmare could come true, which I wish it wouldn't, do check the career center and talk with the program coordinator or director to see if they need a research assistant or program assistant. I do believe your interdisciplinary background could be powerful and fit for lots of positions, and then you may do the application again. I myself could not help but feel anxious, but to think about what I could do if the worst thing could happen could help me. By the way, if I am wrong please correct me, but I suppose some programs you applied for haven't started sending out interviews, and some don't have interviews. And even if you are accepted by MA programs with little funding, which are expensive, you can find teaching assistant positions that will generally cover all your tuition. That was what I did.
  5. I received one email from the graduate center to schedule an "informal meeting". The email also says there would be a current PhD student reaching out to me, but I haven't received anything. I think CUNY is sending out invitations gradually, as the first time I saw their invitation was about a week ago, and I got it yesterday. There should be more to follow.
  6. Hello! Thank you for starting this thread. I am still in the early stage, revising statements and emailing professors to ask if they accept new students. I do suggest sending an email, as one of my best matched professors told me they would retire later this academic year and the department website said nothing about this. On the other hand, has anyone noticed professors are not actively replying to emails? Some just copied paragraphs from the Q&A. I applied for other programs before and usually I could get some suggestions. I am not sure whether this is normal in anthropology.
  7. Thank you for your post! And congratulations on being accepted into the program of your choice! It's excellent news for those of us on the Duke waitlist. I hope they are starting to consider admitting some of us soon.
  8. According to the website of Duke graduation, "Fall admission offers are valid until April 15 or within 15 days of the receipt of the admission letter, whichever is later". I'm not sure whether anthro would have its own deadline.
  9. Hi guys, I just received a waitlist from Duke. I am not quite sure what it means. I mean, Duke sent out most of their results last month so does it mean I am on the second half of the waitlist? And does anyone know how many people they want this year?
  10. Upenn here, never received anything, wonder what happened.
  11. Oh! So sorry for my mistake. I was asking rec letters for PhD programs, as I might be someone who is “outside” the university. I still want to try but have some concerns.
  12. Hi! Thank you so much for your detailed suggestions! They are really helpful! Hope you have a great PhD life! I was thinking of starting the job search as I have not received any good news in this circle. I was wondering if you could share your experience on how to ask professors to write recommendation letters when you are not at university. I am worried about the distance between professors and me. And if I were to apply for more circles, would it be okay to ask the same professors to write letters?
  13. Thank you! I'm on the socio-culture track. I got rejected by Chicago and Cornell. Michigan, NYU, Berkeley, and Duke seem to send out interviews and I did not receive them so 4 soft rejections. If Irvine counts then got 5. I remember someone in this thread said Yale had not started the interview so good luck to us!
  14. Hi! This is my second round. I applied also to 12, received 2 rejections and 4 soft rejections because they sent out interviews and I did not get them. It is tough. Just want to say let's keep our fingers crossed and hope each other good luck!
  15. Wow I didn’t realize someone would submit fake results. Thank you and good luck with your interview!
