  1. The language advice is very good. I am starting a masters programs in the Fall and am fairly certain that I will be focused on early 20th century Latin American art, but who knows? I've changed my mind a thousand times. I double majored in art history and archaeology, loving Modern and Contemporary art the whole time. I started out as an Ancient Roman enthusiast who went to college on a Latin scholarship. I am constantly torn between loving ancient art and archaeology, and being fascinated by the complexities of Modern art. The only modest advice I can offer is to also consider your future job prospects, lifestyle etc. That has helped me. I love Latin and Ancient Roman archaeology, but it's not really the world in which I'd like to work. I like Contemporary art, but I'm really uninterested in the art market. I want a job that will hopefully allow for some travel, and besides being fascinated by Latin American arts, cultures, and traditions, I love traveling there. I am just starting out, so I don't pretend to know much, but I think many people don't take into account that how you envision your career, the people you work with, where you live, and your lifestyle can help to give perspective on choices such as these. That being said, I think you've got plenty of chances to change your mind and figure out what you want. The worst decision would be limiting yourself because you've 'made your bed and now you have to sleep in it.'
  2. i'm the tulane admit, and i was notified by Bazzano-Nelson. My focus is Modern Latin American.
  3. I have been checking the UT application status obsessively too, and haven't heard anything yet either. Hopefully not a sign of rejection!
  4. I applied for a masters to UTexas also, and haven't heard back from them yet. Most of the acceptances from last year weren't until late February, so I wouldn't stress too much yet, even if they've notified some people. That being said, I also check the application status page about 5 times a day. I haven't looked into financial aid as much as I probably should yet for Texas, since I don't like to get my hopes up. Do you know much about it?
  5. this question is for anyone else applying for terminal masters programs. how specific are you being about your intended focus? i'm indicating in my SOPs what my interests are, what i worked on in undergrad, and who i would like to work with in my masters program. still, i'm not that focused yet (which is why i'm going for a masters degree instead of a phd). my lack of certainty is making it very difficult for me to not seem to scattered, and to indicate exactly what i intend to do in graduate school. any advice?
  6. I'm kind of looking to get out of the northeast for a while, so I'm looking at Tulane and UTexas at Austin definitely. They both have great Latin American libraries and a lot of professors who specialize in modern Latin American. I'm going to look at schools in New York as well. Also, check out the University of Essex in the UK. I'm also interested in Georgetown and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago programs. Honestly, I'm a little unsure of whether or not I want to apply this year or next year. I've been doing a lot of research, and I know its getting down to the wire, so I really need to get my applications going if I'm gonna do it! How did the school visits go? I'm really confused, and overwhelmed as well!
  7. I am pretty committed to going for an MA instead of a PhD right away. I'm looking for good masters programs, but I will also need some help with funding, which I know is pretty tough. Can anyone make any suggestions? I also find all the funding stuff extremely confusing, and I have a hard time figuring out who is offering what and what the likelihood of getting any help really is. I'm interested Modern and Contemporary and would like to have some options for Latin American art, since I think I may end up specializing in that. Also, has anyone here (hopefully more people will start posting soon) looked at the tulane program or does anyone know anything about it? It looks pretty great, but I can't find much on it anywhere else.
