Anyone with AP focus claiming a Northwestern offer? It seems to me that so far all Northwestern acceptances posted are either from other subfields or from international applicants.
-
I am aware of the hearsay that the admission committee are more likely to reject those applicants who are actively "reaching out" to the committee for admission progress or application status, probably because they seem too desperate in doing this. Anyone ever hearing about the same thing? Do you feel like there is any factual or logical basis supporting this claim? I was just about to send an email to the DGS of a program to inquire about my assumed rejection, but eventually hesitated upon hearing this.

Does Michigan conventionally send out acceptances in batches like Northwestern? Since a few people in my subfield (AP) have already claimed offers of acceptance from Michigan, I wonder whether it is safe to infer that I have practically been rejected from this program.
-
Congratulations on the Northwestern acceptance! ? Btw, when did you hear back from the department?
-
I feel like the first batch of Michigan decisions are likely to be sent out on February 8, just like in the past two cycles. But it is still possible for the committee to alter the trend if the amount of applicants is too extreme.
-
Haven't heard back about interviews either. At least based on results from the last cycle, there are a few applicants who were not interviewed yet ended up with an offer of acceptance, and there were also some people who were invited to an interview but eventually rejected. So my understanding is that interviews does not apply to all shortlisted candidates or all subfields.

Any fellow applicant with AP focus hearing back from Northwestern? I am wondering whether AP admissions are included in the first round of Northwestern decisions, which seems to have come out earlier this week.

For my fellow Michigan applicants, what do you see under the "Other Required Application Materials" section on your applicant status page through the Wolverine Access portal? Pretty sure that I successfully submitted all required materials onto ApplyWeb before the deadline, but as the image attached shows, this section remains empty for me.

You are not alone!? I applied to an institution where all three of my recommenders are members of faculty but still had heard back nothing positive.
-
Congratulations! Are you applying from a US institution?
-
Congratulations!! $42K is a remakrbly generous package!

Anyone with some internal knowledge of how Northwestern is going? Last circle their first round of acceptances came out in this week (Feb 3). But not sure if they will follow the same timeframe this year.

A little venting in here. Let's honest, this whole process is like borderline mental torture, and the admission committees are to blame. Unlike a job application, we all paid the alleged "application fee". Some of us have to spend extra dollars sending out official test scores to the graduate schools. The least these programs can do is to provide a timeline for every step of their admission process, like when the shortlist will be finalized, when the acceptances will come out, and when people rejected will be officially notified. A little more transparency and communication here would make a whole lot of difference to the applicants whose mental heath clearly suffers from the radio silence without a clear vision for their decisions. Some programs, like Notre Dame or Vanderbilt, have the basic decency to do this but sadly most don't. Also, the decision-making process is egregiously slow for most programs. Most application deadlines are set between Dec 1 and Dec 20, yet fist round of decisions usually won't come out until the February. Do they really need roughly two month to settle a shortlist from like 200-400 applicants? Again, we paid the applicant fee and thereby deserve better treatment from the admission committee. If WUSTL can finish their review in one week, I don't think there should be too much technical difficulty for other programs. More transparency, better communication, and a reasonable speed. That''s all I ask for.

Thanks for sharing such important information! When do you hear of this? The last week or this week?

Feels like a generic mail to all the applicants. My understanding is that if any of these finalists eventually decides to ditch the virtual visit before Feb 9-10, the admission committee will move "waitlisted" applicants accordingly to fill the vacancy. Anyway, it is disappointing on the committee's part to be so evasive about their procedures. You'd expect more decent behavior from a prestigious Catholic institution.
-
Also not being invited. Is it possible for us to contact the DGS to know how high we rank on the "waitlist"? Btw what does the DGS mean by "finalists"? Are they already offered an acceptance or what?
-
I'd love to share but I don't know either.
-
I learned it from a fellow applicant who has already been interviewed. Posts on the GradCafe survey from past circles also indicate that the committee may interview some of the finalists, if not all of them, so it is still possible to get accepted without being interviewed first!
-
Wishing you best luck with the virtual visit!
-
Was told that Vanderbilt will interview all shortlist applicants before Feb 6. Anyone hearing back?
-
Thanks for sharing! I think it is very strange that there are so few posts about Notre Dame interviews in this application cycle. Would you mind specifying your subfield?
-
At this moment I guess my application was done with Notre Dame. Today is the deadline for virtual visit invitation but I haven't heard anything from the DGS. Quite disappointed since it is one of my dream schools. Also, given that there aren't new posts about interview on the GradCafe survey, I would assume only a small sample of applicants were offered invitations to the visit. Anyway, congratulations and best luck to those proceeding to the interview!
-
Still, anyone hearing back from Notre Dame? The deadline for virtual visit invitation is tomorrow (Jan 26th), yet the last post about interview on the GradCafe is from Jan 11th. Is the admission committee really waiting until the final day to send out all the notifications? Or is it that applicants who already received interview invitations are just not so active on the GradCafe? ?
-
Anybody in the AP subfield hearing back from Notre Dame? It has been a while since the last interview invitation was posted, with the invitation deadline being the next Thursday (the 26th). But since this has been only the first week of their spring semester, it is possible that the department is still reviewing applications, the volume of which, according to their past statistics, could be somewhat large (250+).
